Default Going with a FMVB 4L80E

Well I decided to go with a FMVB 4L80E in my car. I had a local guy offering to build one for me so I sold my 4L65e and low and behold the local builder has now backed out. I did buy a 97 model 4L80E with 108k miles on it off ebay for $350. How big a deal is it to rebuild one of these trannies? I work industrial maintenace and have built several motors. I dont figure rebuilding a trans with a performance rebuild kit and TransGo's stage 3 FMVB shift kit can be that hard. Is there a book anyone suggest that has a step by step procedure?

I would do it just so that you would know what you have. I picked up one from a junk yard with 60,000mi & Im having it rebuilt just so that Ill know what Ive got. I know they are very strong, but it sure beats having to pull it right back out to fix it.

I like the DIY aspect of building all my own stuff. I build my own motors, turbo kits, rear ends and install everything myself. I figure why not build the tranny. If it grenades its self then I will know how to fix it. I guess i will make a trip to Barnes and Noble to find a book.

For the 4l80e you want a 97 & up... Not sure where that guy got 4l60e. Have you gotten everything else to do the swap?

Not yet. I got the trans of Ebay and am waiting for it to get here. I will go with a BMR x-member or might even build my own. I am gonna use a high performance rebuild kit that uses Alto red clutchpackes and so on. Also gonna use the TransGo stage 3 fully manula valve body shift kit. Gonna go full manual to get way from all the wiring and PCM junk. The only way I will stay fully auto is if I go with BS3.
