In this month's issue of Hot Rod, a guy with a '94 Z28 has an Lt1 making 456 rear wheel horsepower; stock pcm. He is supposedly the world's quickest and fastest LT1 N/A with a stock computer.
He runs a 9.96 @135 ON MOTOR! Yes, you read that correctly. I would not believe a claim like this unless it was documented.

Ya but he also weighs in at 2980 pounds and cuts a 1.28 60 foot. That helps alot. And it was a 9.93 at 135. I wanna know how he is cutting the 60 foot time with no trans brake?

After reading that article, I honestly didn't know what to think... I like HotRod, I think its quite possibly the best mag out there, and they're usually fairly un-biased in how they write their articles. But in this one they made the LT1 sound like a dog! cut and paste a bit, and you could have thought they were talking about the 305! It was an awesome shot on the front of the article though

^^ all motor i think the lt1 fbody holds the record over the ls1 fbody. that hp does seem kinda low for that time, but then again cam-only ls1's are running low tens with around the same or a little less race weight. and there hp is prolly a bit less or close to that 456.

For some reason that doesnt shock me. It just takes the right set up. The car has the weight (or lack of) and a great 60', that means it is getting it done where it counts.
Work on your 60' and then 330', the rest will be there, trust me!!

The car made 450rwhp but the torque converter/tranny is eating up some HP. Don't get too hungup on dyno #'s b/c they can be misleading esp. when autos are involved. I have seen this car run also and it's leaves very hard. Later Clint

the car in the magazine is deff capable of running 9's... its a 396with a th350 and a 5500 convertor.... also weighing 2980 and does a 1.28 60 foot.... deff not like its unheard of or anything but with his combo it can deff be done...
and u deff cant always go by dyno number my car dynoes 313 through a th400 and 9 inch and i was goin like 11.2 at the time...now its making a tad more and it goin 11.0 at 120 with a 1.46 60 foot.....

You have HP, then you have a applied HP...
difference between a 800 hp engine and 600 hp engine..Ben has a finely tuned car to compliment his engine/tuning..... Most people over look the fine details and just look at numbers vs. dyno.. Congrats Ben ,have to go grab a copy..

The bigest thing that most people dont understand is it isnt how much HP the car makes it is the suspension AND convertor working together. There are only a few people on this board who actually go out and continously run their car and try to maximize the car. Ben has been working on this combo for years and is constantly running the car and trying diffferent things to better his effort. He also keeps track of everything he does on each pass to see if it worked or not.

just like madman said.... I believe performance is all about the COMBINATION of parts.... not just one or two individual parts..... If one thing is not right you'll suffer reduced performance..... My old setup was a good example... budget off the shelf parts, 3500 lb daily driven car, small nitrous shot... low 10's.... it's all in the combo...
