Default Who, Where, What, want bigger cam than 244/248 for my 408 N/A

Hi might be looking at going bigger with the cam in the 408, current cam is a Comp custom 244/248-609/615 LSA 112.
1. who makes the biggest hydraulic cam off the shelf or custom. Looking at 252/256 and lift below 630 on a LSA 112-110 or would I need to go solid. cheers.

Why don't you have some stepped headers on that beast?

Hi so would that be a custom grind, I would like to keep the lift under 650 as Im running Patriot dual spring and rated to 650 lift. whats the idle like, Im in Australia so I need to find who does the larger grinds and then ship here.

We do off the shelf custom grinds

Really though, you wont find anything off the shelf so to speak, but its not hard to get a custom cam done, only takes us a 3 days or so to get them when we spec them out for our customer. Talk to who you think can pick a cam to suit your combination, and get the ball rolling

Any sponsor can do a custom grind cam for you without any hassle. But you do not want to max out those springs. A big cam is going to wear on those springs very fast.

Not knowing your goals, I'll post a custom cam that works well because it doesn't fight the natural peak of the FAST 90 (which is 6300RPM) carries it through till 7k (because it doesn't have much advance) and makes tremendous area under the curve power (again, because it doesn't fight the manifold, but instead makes power within the RPM window the manifold allows.)

The only drawback with going bigger is increased overlap, but overlap is power and reduced drivability. Overlap is insane at 37 degrees at .050" but with a good SD tune it should be manageable. I'd go with a Comp LSK 251/255 108+1.

The lobe specs are as follows:

Lobe#, Dur. @ .006", .050", .200", & Lift
2133 301 251 175 .660"
2134 305 255 179 .663"

Use the lobe numbers to order.

Thanks so would that be a hydraulic cam, those specs are great. what about reliable springs and lifters as Im using patriot duals and comp 850 lifters, would I loose to much dropping the lift to back to around 620-630 or change springs to suit. cheers

Don't get caught in a public shower with a small camshaft.

Something like that is definately going to need a good open-loop/speed-density tune.

You'd need Comp 921 springs shimmed to within .050" of coil bind and would probably be better off running Morel lifters.

Neither are inexpensive.

You can back off the lift a bit with an XFI lobe, but I don't have those specs in front of me. Or, continue to run the XE-R lobes that you have now. The XE-R 244/248 should make great power in a 408 if you have good heads. Overcamming will not give you more power, it'll either cost you usable power or make overlap insane to keep the powerband usable while giving you just a little more power.

A great set of heads and proper combination of parts should net you 530+rwhp with that cam. If you are short of that, then, yes, the cheap fix is another, bigger cam.
