Default 800 hp LS1, yeah right!

This guy i work with just bought a '02 TA. He says it has 600 rwhp with a 200 shot of nitrous. I just moved up to fuel injected cars but from what i know about any old V8 i have built, those numbers seem very high. Like i said i am new to the ls1 but 600 hp out of a NA 350? some of the things he said I know are bs, he said he had the 350 bored to a 407. Thats an awful big overbore on an aluminum block. i just wanted to check with the experts before i told him he was a liar.

Well, a 200 hit of juice is definitely not NA. And a 402 or 408 is totally possible, hell you can even go to 441 cubes with sleeving. I've never heard of a 407 though. I'd learn more / want to see it before I waved ther BS flag.

It sounds fishy, but a 408cid LS1 will definitely make 500+rwhp N/A. Perhaps
he's talking 600hp at the flywheel? If so, that's possible. A 407" LS1? Hmmm...
A built LS1 will easily hold a 200 shot. There will be an awful lot of supporting
mods required to make 800hp or even 600hp. Pop the hood. You'll know for
sure right off the bat.

BTW...a stock LS1 is 346 cubes, not 350.

+1.

600rwhp sounds iffy, unless he's running huge compression and race gas...but it sounds like this guy doesnt know the difference between C16 and C4.

Pop the hood, then pop him in the head.

AZFBA has a member running a heavily modified 402 thats putting 502hp to the wheels on a DynoJet dyno. Damn things got so much torque that street tires are useless unless you're easy on the throttle. And yeah, it cost major $$$$$.

Ditto, sounds kida fishy. These engines are worlds apart from the old days though. You'll learn quickly, and be surprised at how much power you can make reliably.

On pump gas, I'd say he'd have to have one hell of a tune, and a whole lot of cubes.

Some people consider 110 Cam2 pump gas apparently.

I know a guy that had a 520rwhp 408(6.0 block) LS1, so 600flywheel hp on pump gas is very possible. the guy u know might have been told 600hp and assumed RWHP. it would be rather easy to tell if it is indeed fully built up. what does the rear end look like. if it looks stock, then he is talkin out of his ***. no way in hell a stock 10 bolt would live with that power.

Quick Reply: 800 hp LS1, yeah right!
