If you have a a4 then a 12 bolt will do because you can preload the rear, for a stick that will see 6k clutch drop launches you will need a 9" to take the shock !

I'm about to get a Strange Spooled 12 Bolt from SJM >>>>

Weight was the concern here, and seeing guys pushing 1000whp+ on a similar rear end.. I'm sold..

Probably a4 guys. The lightweight aluminum center section 9"s are 8lbs lighter than your standard 12 bolt.

Not sure what the lightweight 12 bolts weigh though

you are saying that the center section of a 9" is lighter than a complete 12 bolt?

I can believe that, you just have to add the housing which is massive... unless you do a Fab 9.. which increase price at least 1K..

I think that if you have money to spare and want something bulletproof, a Fabbed 9 inch with lightweight center is the route...

But me as a budget racer, a Spooled 12 bolt will do the job (big hope)

Tell your friend that he made a VERY wise decision.. I've had both (12 & 9) and I loved them both. But, the 12bolts are noisy as hell and tend to whine no matter what you do and they aren't even close to bulletproof.

Now I have a narrowed 9in, 35 spline gun drilled axles, lightened spool and pro gears with an Aluminum center section. I think its pretty safe to say that its bulletproof or damn close to it...

I like the 9" because they're beefier and alot easier to work on if needed.

How much would each of them cost brand new?

Also, could someone please list the pros and cons of the 9 and 12 please.

for a top of the line, bad *** 9" it's around $2600 if you get all the options and a decent deal. maybe a little more. i would assume it's quite a bit less for a 12 bolt, maybe $1800ish or a little more.

How many times did you break the 12 bolt and what kind of times and power are you putting out? Weight of your car?

Luis

Your an A4 so a lightened 12bolt would be perfrect for you. Hell Jeremy is running a 10bolt and hitting 1.6 60's with his and has done 3 gear changes in the last 2 or 3 years.
