Default Wheel Stud broke....How do I fit a new one?

Hi,

Whilst installing my new wheels, I managed to break 1 wheel stud clean off...

As I live in the UK and getting shops to work on my 2000 Camaro SS is very difficult, can anyone tell me what is involved in replacing a wheel stud?
Also, as I will need some time to find a correct size stud here, is it OK to drive with only 4 studs, until I can get the 5th one fixed?

Any help greatly appreciated.

Wheel studs break alot, they are pretty easy to replace. Most tire places stock the studs because they break alot of them with impact guns . They just have knock out the broken one then press the new stud into the hub.

As far as driving it with 4/5, it's ok for the short term as long as you aren't too rough

Front or rear?

Front:

1. Remove wheel
2. Remove caliper (have something to support it so it doesn't pull the brake line)
3. Remove caliper bracket
4. Remove rotor
5. Fire away with a hammer
6. Pull the new stud through the hole, get a junk lug nut and hand tighten as far as it goes
7. Put something (big screwdriver) through one of the bigger holes to prevent the spinning thingy from spinning (spindle? I dunno what they call it)
8. Torque down the lug nut as hard as you can, until the stud is pulled all the way through
9. Remove the lug nut and toss it in the trash!
10. Put everything back together

Rear?

Do all the same steps up to #4

5. Remove the big ring you see (this is the ABS or e-brake ring, can't remember which)
6. Line up broken stud to the "dent" that is behind the wheel studs
7. Fire away with the hammer
8. Pull the stud through (use the dent to help get the stud in)
9. Replace the big ring
10. Put the rotor back on, then pull up your e-brake
11. Hand tighten a junk lug nut WITH A WASHER to the new wheel stud
12. Tighten down that wheel stud
13. Toss the stud out that now has a washer jammed in it
14. Put everything back together

For what it's worth, I replaced all 10 of my rear studs using the "lug nut with a washer through the rotor" method, and I have no problems. In fact on the front I went through 10 different lug nuts, where I only needed the one lug nut (with washer "built in") for the rears! Others might do thiers differently, but this is how I did mine

I just broke one on my car as well, in the rear....I have no choice but to drive on it till it gets fixed....

Is there any way to do that w/o removing the rotor and the caliper? I don't want to remove the axle and ****, and I don't have time for that...so can I just move the axle to 8-10 o'clock and pound it out, and put the new one in? This is for the rear.

It seems like some people have been able to change them in the rear without taking out the axles, but others havent, so its hit and miss. It just seems to be tougher to get out the studs if you dont remove the axles, i guess i'll see since im doing mine this weekend hopefully

I have 3.25" wheel studs I need to put in the front. That will require me to take off the rotors and calipers, correct?
