The biggest advantage to a narrow rear is less rotating weight. Second would be less unsprung weight. Third would be that you can run wheels with less backspacing.

This is why. I just finished the car yesterday. I wanted to lower the car but keep my big tire.

30" X 10.5" tires on 10" Bogart (*edit*) "welded GT's" (/*edit*) with 5.125" BS. Rear shortened 3" per side.

Is there any negative effects? Any difference in performance on the street??

Would you just recommend this for a all out strip car?

My car isn't a strip car, although there is more emphasis on my mods towards strip than street.

I ordered mine (still haven't recieved it ) narrowed 1.5" per side. Thats the most you can run if your going to use the stock wheels. Even then I am going to have to run some spacers to provide some breathing room.

I wanted 2.5" but I would have to run the Bogarts full time, car is my daily driver, and didn't want to run the risk of screwing them up. That or order some aftermarket street wheels. It was cheaper just to lower the amount I wanted cut off the housing and axles.

I am going to do that!
That is bad ***.
Did you have to do any mods to the inside of the wheelwell? Any clearancing or cutting things off like the bumpstops?
Narrowed 3 inches on each side right?

LOL thanks Carlos.

Thanks revtime Yes many more mods to do this. It's alot of work man.

I mini tubbed the car. I used the Wolfe mini tub kit and the Wolfe adjustable spring perches ( 2.5" X 10" X 150 springs). The perches are adjusted as low as they will go. I lowered the front about an inch or so to catch up with the rear. 47 threads showing on my HAL F series coil overs.

There is more:

BMR offset lower control arms ( I offset them myself as they were the old style with a pressed in bushing) I pressed the bushing over all the way and then you need to trim the LCA housing a little so the LCA fits. LCA relocation brackets set on the lowest hole. Shortened the PHB to fit into the upper hole. Raised the perches on the Wolfe drag bar.

Bump stops and bump stop brackets were removed years ago.

Yes 3" per side.

Oh ya, Had the wheel wells opened up to recieve the 30" tire.

Damn, is it possible to make 15 X 10 wheels fit tucked under the fender lip like that and not have to narrow the rear/mini tub? All others Ive seen besides toms stick out some. Tom, your car looks absolutely sick! Good job!

fire67 - no. if you want the wheel to tuck in, then either the fenders have to grow...or the rear has to get narrowed

Well those fenders def aint growin...
So, I want to fit 15X10's with a 28X10.5 slick under there, whats gonna be the easiest (< Read 'Cheapest') way to get them to tuck, or at least clear a rolled fender lip?

Tom,

Your set was the first set of wheels we built this way for an F-body. We did the other set for BMR. They were modified floyd RT's (I didn't have a name for them at the time). Can you please refer to them to folks as "welded GT's" so we can easily identify them from other designs.

I don't have this new addition we created yet up on the website, but I am having it worked on.

It is easier to call them a new name, rather then call them custom modified... .

Thanks,

Steve

do a search. a TON of people run 15x10 on a 28" tire and fit them flush with the fenders. just requires a 7.5" bs

I run 325 50's (pretty close to a 28 x 10.5W) on 7.5" BS, stock length axles and it tucks pretty damn good. No fender rolling, or minitubbing, but a lot of time with a grinder and a BFH.

Yeah thats a little more work than I was expecting but it would still be cheaper than back halving the car I would think.
I love that stance though so maybe when I order my new rear I will have em go ahead and shorten it so that way I have to do the rest of the work....

Thanks for the info.

rev time, why do you think you have to "back half" the car?

you can narrow the rear up to 3" if you stick with a 10.5" wide tire on a stock tub and offset LCA. if you are going to narrow might as well go for it and if you want a big tire later you have the option to mini tub. then you can look like tom the roofers car.

A shorter axle will also be stronger.

what does the 'W' stand for in the tire size description? I see that there are like 5+ different tires by M/T in the 28-10.5's. The only diff I can tell is the compounds and the letter. I see there are 'C', "CL", etc
