LS6 Cam + FI Good/Bad
I found a pretty good deal on a brand new LS6 Cam
Cam Specs:
204/218 Intake/Exhaust @ 0.05" Duration
0.551" / 0.547" Intake/Exhaust Lift
117.5 LSA
Would it be worth it to just upgrade to this cam...I have heard it was a pretty good blower cam...
The reason I was checking into this small of a cam is because my engine has 100,000 miles so I didnt want to get to radical, so I can get as many miles out of er as possible...
If some of you guys could just share some input on this subject...
Mods in the sig! TIA

It is common knowledge that the LS6 cam makes a GREAT BLOWER cam and many love the fact that your car will not loose any streetablility. I say go for it, unless you are looking for that bigger type of blower cam that will make a little more power for you!

Hill, I hope you don't mind me interjecting...
What makes an LS6 cam, an LS6 cam. I've seen a lot of cams say they are LS6 cams that have had different specs. Does anyone know the specs of the factory LS6 cam.
Thanks.
Justin.

Don't mean to hi-jack your thread or anything, but I was also thinking about adding a small blower cam (LPE GT2-3) into my nearly 100K mile car but was concerned about longevity of the engine. How much RWHP would I gain and would I have to upgrade the valvetrain as well (springs, pushrods, lifters)?
P.S. I running a ATI P1SC w/7 lbs. of boost on a bone-stock engine.

It's RPMs that will ultimate shorten the life of a stock shortblock. So if that cam does not force you to buzz the engine real high to make power, then it sounds like fun. The more duration you run, the more peak power you can make, but there can be a loss in low end torque from bigger cams, and the power peak is shifted higher... Power comes at a price.

You dont get something for nothing in the camshaft world. I could probbaly make a few more HP with a bigger cam but this is all I NEED right now. If you want the rumpity rump idle thats another thing, thats why a lot of guys do larger cams. My simple advice is start small and see what happens, you may be surprised

Thanks for alot of input fellas...I may have to jump on this deal! Ive already got the LS6 Springs on the way just to upgrade the 6.0L Head Stockers, which I will be installing with this setup...
Now as for pushrods doesnt this cam have approximately a 0.050" smaller base circle than a our stock LS1 camshaft. What size Pushrods are you guys running with this?

FWIW, I have a 02+ Z06 cam in my 4.8 sts truck. I really like it. MUCH better then stock, but it doesn't really start to pull till about 3500, which kind of sucks in my heavy *** truck with a baby motor even though I have a 28-3000 stall. But for a $130 bucks, with springs, used, best money I spent for a performance part. Gained about 50 RWHP over the stock cam with only 7 lbs of boost. Planing on pumping up the boost shortly.

That will work out then...I was just wondering because my buddy had to change his rods to a different size when he did his cam (Not the Z06 Cam) install because it was making him lose boost...This was the main reason I was checking...
But if the stockers or stock length rods will work, especially with your 9 Sec ride...Im sure they will get the job done...
One more question....I know everyone usually changes their Timing Chain set up...Would it still be something I may need to do even though the cam has a stock type range and all??
