View Full Version : Ported TB on stock LS1????

I have an 01 LS1 and was thinking about doing a ported TB, the only thing is the car runs extremely well for what it has now (12.7@112 with catback, lid, mass air). I've heard of people losing power, running rich with aftermarked throttle bodies. I don't want to tweak to much with my set up and would like to leave the stock tuning for now. Do you think I will lose any with a stock ported tb? Will I get any gains???

I don't see how you could lose any power. I've never heard anything negative about a ported TB. Messing with the MAF can cause problems. I wouldn't think the TB would cause any tuning issues.

If all you are going to do is smooth out the ridge on the front of the TB and polish it up in front of the butterfly, there should be zero problems. If you go the whole route with epoxy and fill in the areas up top then the only problems I've seen is at idle (IAC counts) if the hole to the IAC isn't large enough. I had that problem and just drilled out a larger opening.

I have a Jim Pace 85mm mass air and it seems to work good in my combo, a good friend has a aftermarket TB and he seems to have lost power. I'm thinking with just a ported tb I should be ok. Anyone have dyno numbers or et's?

If the dude lost power from a ported TB,
he should check out the cable and stops.
My stocker had so much cable slack that
it never even hit the bump stop (all due
to the pedal-to-pulley-cluster run, which
is the nonadjustable of the three). Took
out 1/2" of slack. Especially if this was
an exchange deal, maybe something is just
a little different there.

No, it doesn't effect the mixture (unless you somehow created a vacume leak of course.)

A ported TB will help. Your numbers are really good for the mods you have. I would expect at least a gain to 113 or 114 in the 1/4 if you got some traction you would be in the low side of the 12's with it.
