Default Tuning after HOTCAM

Where and how do you tune a computer after you put the LT4 HOTCAM kit? someone said you have to send the computer off to a place that reprogams the computer. Is this my only way of getting a tune if not which is better.

Unless you know someone that does it, or a place where you are at that does it. I have a guy at a GM Dealership that race tunes stuff. He did mine.

I am in Texas and took mine to Ed Wright in Tulsa Oklahoma. I have the Hot cam kit. Stock, the car pulled 254rwhp. After the tune, I am hitting 380rwhp! I have been up to his place several times and he has always done a great job.

hahahah. Ditto. If so I think everyone would have a hotcam Kit

But I have a more aggresive cam then the Hotcam and I'm certainly not making 380 and I have full boltons and such.

Hold on fellas, remember that if this was a Mustang dyno, it would be that high. And if he were to correct it or run on a Dynojet, it would drop immensly.

My Imps #'s on a Mustang dyno was 356/380, then on a dynojet=SAE corrected was 331/342. W/ the Hotcam and full bolt-ons.

But yes, a sheet is requested here.

If I hit 370, with all what i did to the car, I might be struck with a heart attack.

what mods do you have?

I only got 335 rwhp from the Hotcam. Even with ported heads it would be hard to hit 380 with the Hotcam.

It would take some serious head work and some compression higher than 11.5:1 for the HOT Cam to pull the 370+ area.
When I had my LT4 set up we were talking with some places about 380ish RWHP stuff but it got to be more than a street freindly set up so I backed down.

Man, some of you guys are so touchy. I have no problem with Ed Wright posting my latest dyno up for all of you to see. He tuned the car and has dynoed it over a dozen times for me. His dyno is not a Mustang dyno. I believe I hit 377 on his last and the last dyno I did in Texas was at 380, with a few tweeks. He posts here often and can vouch for the power the car made. I remember him telling me it was the highest he had ever dynoed a Hot cammmed auto. Feel free to ask him about it. Maybe he will chime into this post himself.
Most auto Hot cam cars don't make this power. Maybe I should have been more specific before I let a bunch of poeple dog my reply on this post. I have the Hot cam, ported heads by GTP in Houston that flow approx. 290 at .525. I have AS&M midlength headers w. Random tech catback and Borla. It also helps to start with a well balanced motor from the factory. I have a few bolt-ons, but not all of them, like pulley, etc. The compression is at 10.8 to 1.
I have had 2 of these cars(96' WS9's). I chose to modify this one due to the fact that it dynoed nearly 20 more rw from the factory than the other one. It must have been a Wednesday car. It is a very streetable car, and is off and on my daily driver.

WOW, I am still stunned that it pulled 370+ in that configuration. Even head flow at that level....

Ed did my 2000 TA M6 a few months back and I was blown away. He is a top class professional that knows his stuff. You don’t get these types of results by chance. He has knowledge and understanding to get the most out of most GM cars and trucks.

As far as dyno numbers go they always correct back to SAE.

As a R&D Engineer for a marine engine manufacture I deal with gas V8 engine and know that I can do a power run on Monday and then on Friday get a different outcome with the same engine. This is in a dyno cell with many controlled variables. Chasse dyno’s are great tools, and work great when you use them to compare performance changes on the same car on the same day.
