Default Sheet metal intake..for race only???

I was looking at maybe getting a sheet metal intake and I noticed some say for racing only. What's the deal with this. Is this like headers saying off road use only? I can't see what the downside would be to running one on the street. Thanks for any input. By the way my engine is a 422 aluminum block and I currently have the ls6 intake.

I don't see a sheetmetal intake being worth the money unless you have C5R heads. Colonel ran 9s with his 422 and an LS6 intake.
Maybe if you had a big inch motor with a turbo or supercharger you could use a sheetmetal intake. I'd just say stick to the LS6 intake. <img border="0" alt="[cheers]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_cheers.gif" />

They are designed for big cube high RPM engines. The ports will be big and runners short, with a large plenum area. This is to make them perform at the higher RPM.

Insane power up top, but a big hit in low-end power and torque. You probably wouldn't want this unless you're running a lot of gear or stall.

It would be nice to see a replacement intake made out of some sort of composite material to keep heat soak down.
For all the sponsors that read this heres a site that sells carbon fiber and kevlar in bulk www.fiberglast.com

We are also testing several differant designs of Sheet Metal Intakes that will make power for your application. They will also be very streetable and make power across the power band. E-mail for info and pics and I will keep you posted on dyno tests.

Thanks Nate
