I looked a some of the pictures on the Yank's website and the PY3400 is not looking anywhere like the one we got... Actually, the converter we got look more like the stock torque converter painted in red... But it really says PY3400 on the yank's box... that is weird...

We have got that converter for about 8-9 months now and its been sitting on the garage's tablet for 7-8 months then we installed it and we've been wondering why couldn't we stall it any higher than 2000 or so RPM since then... We have driven 50miles since installation...

So what are we supposed to do now?


We lost our time, we paid for a converter which in fact is not anywhere what we paid for... and the best part of it is we need to redo everything again....

Anyone from yank could help us on this one?

What rpm does the engine jump to when you hammer it?

If I put the selector in 2nd gear it and floor it from a dead stop, it will go from 2000 rpm and climb as the speed increase... no more no less...

If we hold the brake doing the same, the RPM stays at 2050 rpm approx...

I really don't know what should I do with that right now...


I am to the point of giving up on getting rev past 2k rpm from a start...


Only thing I regret is having paid nearly 1G for a 2K rpm stall converter...


Almost like the stock one...

if the story happened like you said that is some shady *** ****- painting a stocker red (sorry but the converter you describe is a stock one, not a doubt in my mind).

don't know what to tell you other than to yank it out and proceed to take legal action. i know i would, or at the very least it would be getting sent back and the seller/distributor getting trashed every chance i got.

Have you contacted Yank directly? They stand behind their product and I can't see them doing this intentionally. Call Dave tomorrow and explain the situation.

I dont think it is a stock converter painted red.... The stock bolts to the flexplate were not the same as the converter... but by its shape/size only, I could not tell any real difference between the stock and yank converter beside color.

And by driving it... it drive like stock again....

To this point I am MP'ing to yank directly through this website... Hope to make it run right..... somewhere this summer .... at least...

What comes to my mind...you have this converter for 8-9 months and never took it out of the box to look at it? You say $1000 for it, I'd take it out of the box the second it got in my hands.
It doesn't take much knowledge to tell the difference between a Yank and stock mainly due to the front cover.

I've also heard stories of guys who worked at performance shops that would take expensive stuff out of the box and put cheap **** in there so they get a big employee discount.

another thing that crossed my mind also. chances are that yank packaged the correct converter in there, but somewhere else along the chain it got switched. bottum line it isn't right and that is bullshit. you need to contact tbyrne, yank, whoever else was involved in the transaction. i don't give a **** if it was 2 years ago, they keep all of that stuff on file.

again, good luck and sorry to hear. it pisses me off to hear of people getting ripped off by shops/suppliers. ebay and private sales are one thing but when the "big" guys do it there has to be legal actions taken imho.

For now, the converter is installed in the car, so I can't really measure it...

But what diameter should it really be?

I am 99% sure it is same/almost same diameter as stocker.


What I will do will all depends of Yanks response to that issue...

BTW: Even if I looked at the converter the minute I received it, I would not have seen anything bad since I didn't knew nothing about these things... only now I begin to know somethings since I am desperately tring to get it to stall at 3400...

The stock converter is much heavier than the typical Yank converter. Like I said, call Yank.

Are you thinking your going to make a low stall converter stall at or around 3400? Thats what it sounds like you're thinking.
It's not going to happen.
You say you can't dismantle the car right now then get it out of your head that you're going to get it to stall at 3400.

You can try holding the brakes as hard as you can and punching the throttle open for a second, the tires will break loose close to the stall speed.

Is it possible we dont have enough power (only 1psi of boost at 2000 rpms) to stall any higher?????
