German Castrol 0w30 - It has shown some of the best oil analysis tests, and is one of the only few fully synthetics.

Mobil one is a great oil as well. I would run what you can get cheaper.

Valvoline Synpower it has worked well for me in all of my vehicles for the past 10 yrs. I got over 200K out of a lil 4.3L and it didn't burn any oil when I sold it and it's still going 3 years later.

German Syntec is arguably the best oil for our cars. If you can't find it, Mobil 1 0W40 is pretty good as well.

A bunch of folks will now get on here and say "i use xxx and my engine is great!" Unless they have an oil analysis to back up their statement it's just opinion. For 20 bucks get your oil analyzed and then report back the results of the tests.

I suggest German made Castrol 0w-30, Mobil 1 Truck/SUV, Amsoil 5w-30 or 10w-40 (10w in warmer climates), Redline 5w-30 or 10w-40 (10w in warmer cliamates) and Royal Purple Racing 41. All those suggestions are based on oil analysis tests that either I have had done or have read about on independent oil sites. The key is INDEPENDENT sites. Reading how great Royal Purple 5w-30 is on a Royal Purple site is useless. I would not suggest Mobil 1 5w-30 for any LSx engine. It is just too thin at temperature for the LSx.

I cannot tell you how many oil threads are here. Probably over 50. Do a search and you will see lots of good factual information on oil. If you REALLY want to know more about oil check out bobistheoilguy.com but trust me, that site is not for the casual reader looking for a clear "this oil is best".

Oh, and I only run GC 0w-30 in my LS1.

i personally didnt bother with synthetic. i ran castrol gtx 10w-30. i had no problems at all. my car ran smooth as hell. lol.. i changed my oil religously every 3k miles and never had oil consumption, or piston slap or anything like that. from all the stuff ive read, it seems like everybody running mobil 1 5w-30 had oil consumption..

When you do a headswap on a 100K motor and everything inside looks like it left the factory a week ago, maybe youll be convinced to use synthetics.

Go with Mobil 1 since you get it cheaper. Its a great oil and the choice between Syntec and 1 will not affect your engines longevity either way.
