9" question for high hp Manual cars After breaking two posi units in a 12 bolt, i'm thinking of making the switch to a 9" 550hp with a Mcleod twin disk, 3500lb car, Et Drags. 1.5 60's.
how much stronger is a posi unit in a 9 inch compared to a 12 bolt?
will a true Trak hold more than a posi unit?
I have spooled the 12bolt for now, but since we autocross/road course the car on occation I would like to go back to a rear we can autocross. I may buy an extra spooled center section to put in when I want to go fast at the track.

A few years back with my old set up...
355 LT1

Strange 4.11 gear
Strange posi unit
1.49 sixty foot time with 500 rwhp
You'll have no problems with the 9 inch.

SteveMiliz - I was going to throw it up for sale for $1,800 as it has weld-on relocaton brackets, 33 spline axles, 4:11 gears installed, TA Aluminum Cover, plus I have a extra set of 4:30 gears.

I toste the idea around for a few and came up with the 9". I drag race more than any thing. So I would be bias. 9" or nothing, I'd say!
PS. I have a true trac posi unit. Working great so far.
9" is the only way to go for all out power handling.

With a high horespower car a nine inch is the only way to go if you a have a manual trans. A 12 bolt just won't take the abuse after time it'll work with a pro gear for a while but you'll break it eventually. Be sure to put a pro gear in it a sreet gear will never live, the best I've done with a street gear is 3 passes. I thought it was a bad setup and bought another set and 2 passes it broke again . 1.32 60 foot 9 inch here. 3451 pds.
A 9 inch can break too though I 've ripped the pinion right out of the nodular iron case also awhile back in my 70 camaro stick.
