random tech cats
I am thinking about gutting my cats or getting some ORPs made for my SLP headers and y-pipe. I have the Random Tech cats and was wondering if it would be better to get ORPs made or gut my cats? Would gutted cats cause turbulence? Any thoughts or suggestions?

Those are some expensive cats to be destroying. Get the ORP's. You may want to go back to cats or sell the car someday.

Weasel is right, I was in a horsepower zone oneday when I had my exhaust off and gutted my RandomTech cats, VERY STUPID mistake. I had the SLP Loud Mouth with gutted cats and couldn't drive it but 1 day until my head was about to explode! I had to get a true muffler installed and take off the loud mouth cause it was so loud. Get ORP's if you want to go unrestricted.

I have heard that when you gut cats, it does create a rasp sound from the turbulance in the cats. I would get ORP's and keep the cats for when you need it inspected.

Gutting RT cats
Thats like wiping your a$$ with $100 bill
Why not buy some cheap cats and gut them, and either sell those RTs or give them to me
Look at catco cats, they look just like stock cats (Minus the brown color) and you can gut those for a cheap price

2002 Trans am, That's funny!!!
Actually I was looking for a cheap way to get rid of the cats and that was the cheapest I could think of was gutting them.
But now I think I can sell them and have ORPs made and probably break even. SLP used to sell ORPs but don't anymore which means I either have to have my y-pipe changed or have some ORPs made which would just be a straight pipe the length of my cats with the right diameter ends to clamp on.
I can pass inspection with o2 simms no problem without cats, but if I open my cutout, it may be obnoxiuos! In which case if I have to run with it closed most of the time, then how much am I really gaining by getting rid of the cats?

You can buy pre-made ORPs for SLP headers from some of the sponsers. Speed Inc and Tbyrne sell them I beleive...

db99sscam,
If you want to gut your cats, just trade with me. You can have my stock ones, gut them, weld in a straight pipe thru them and your done and I'll have RT cats.

Re: random tech cats
I'm not sure they are the same length and have the same diameter ends, one end goes to the 3" y-pipe and the other end goes to the header collector. The stock ones won't work with headers that I know of. If I remember right the drivers side bolted to the stock exhaust manifold and that definately will not work with my setup. If I sell them, I will make you a good deal.

Re: random tech cats
Just cut the cats out (save them) and inset a short section of straight pipe. MUCH better flow than gutted cats. And, pretty cheap to do.
