Default Help!! loudmouth exhaust

Hey guys!
I need some help. I live in denton county in Tx and was going to install SLP's loud mouth on my 00 Z28. I called up my local muffler shop [Have no tools ] and asked them about it. they said they wont touch it coz it has no muffler . I told them that SLP claimed it was street legal. i want to know if any one around here has had a problem with the loud mouth exhaust passing state inspection? any advice would be greatly appreciated.

i would just bring the paper saying that it is 50 states legal, people shouldn't have problems it looks like a resonator which qualifies as a muffler

hey man save some loot and do it yourself. i did it with a pair of jackstands, socket set, hacksaw, and a hammer. total install time was about 4 hours. i could easily do it in 2.5 now.

The LM is legal. I put my catback on myself, but my Dad had a shop remove the mufflers on his F150 and put in straight pipes. It sounds damn good too (for a Ford) . Find another shop.

The resonator is technically a muffler. Someone wrote extensively on the SLP message board. Standard mufflers are wave cancellation mufflers i.e. packing material. Flowmaster, Corsa, etc are wave reflection mufflers, and there is a third style I can't remember off the top of my head. The LM resonator is a type of wave reflection muffler, it just happens to be very ineffective.

Passing inspections wouldn't be a problem either. The cats do all the work. My limits were really low with the loudmouth on. No probs. here.

Technically ANY aftermarket exhaust that is louder then your stock is illegal. Trust me on this. I have like 18 cop friends.

That said, most cops will not bother to enforce this law since it is a hassle. Plus, DB levels are not checked during emmisions.

Anyway, buy two rhino ramps, one wrench, and a hacksaw... and save yourself money.

I installed mine myself in under two hours. It's easier to remove the stock exhaust if you saw it off just before the rear axle with a SawsAll. The Loud Mouth isn't all that loud unless you remove the cats. Cops won't bother you unless you go by them full throttle!
