Shift extensions are where when the car shifts.....it's the RPM it falls to to start the next gear. The higher the stall the higer the extension.

After your car shifts with the stock converter, rpms drop to ~4000...that's your shift extension--~4000rpm. With a big stall you will only drop to 5k rpm give or take (depending on stall size) between shifts, so your shift extension would be 5k rpm. Make sense?

I think I was told the higher the stall that higher the shift extension. I don' t think tuning the PCM would help, in that way.

With my 3800, my shift extension is about 5300-5400, so, at WOT, the RPMs don' t drop below these engine speeds.

It lowers your E.T. at the track by allowing you to launch faster. Cutting 2.0-2.2 60' times is common in stock form. Cutting 1.5-1.6 60' times is common with a good TC. For every .1 second you take off your 60' you can double that on the other end. TC's shine best from a dead stop.

Raising shift points has nothing to do with extensions. If you raise your shift points it's still going to fall down to the exact RPM it did before. If you want to raise your extensions, you have to go bigger on your stall.
