The PCM is probably not allowing the TCC to lock up due to the cam and "misfires" it thinks is happening. Get it tuned and have them adjust the misfires codes and you should be good.

Yah you just need to raise the max values on the misfire table on the low and middle rpm table.

just for ***** and giggles try re-setting the pcm.

turn ignition on
remove pcm bat and pcm ign fuses in engine compartment
turn ignition off
wait a minute
put fuses back in and start the car

like stated it is probably misfires however. when my car does it i put it in neutral (even while driving) and turn the car off. then just re-start the car and put it back into drive, locks up perfectly. only usually does it after nitrous runs .

yes, it is perfectly safe. it takes a few miles/minutes for the car to re-learn the settings and after that it is exactly the same as it was before you re-set it.
