Default Longer studs required in front with drag wheels and shank lugs?

As the post states, are longer studs required to be NHRA legal?

The stock studs fit almost flush with the rim. I don't know if they'll give me a hard time at the track or if it is even normal.

Any help would be appreciated.

I believe the rule is the stud has to stick out past the rim the width of the stud. So if it's a 1/2" stud it has to stick out 1/2" past the wheel.

WRONG! The stud must enter into the lug nut a depth equal to the size of the stud. So if you have a 1/2" diameter stud, the stud needs to only protrude/engage the lug nut 1/2". Do a search (on the internet) and this is NHRA current rule for cars running upto 8.50 I believe.

I thought it must go into the nut part of the stud a depth equal to the size of the stud. So if you have shank style lugs, it will have to come out past the rim and into the nut end that distance. Is this correct, or can it just enter the shank the size of the stud. That just doesn't sound right.

I am sorry that is correct, I read it as past the lug nut. Yes, it must go past the rim or into the hex portio of the lug nut.

but most lugs have thick washers ,the wording is , it must be into the HEX the thickness of the stud,so it would actually stick out of the wheel more than the thickness of the stud,
but most aftermarket studs are 3" long so it really wouldnt matter, bob

Thanks Bob.

Studs are on order.

I thought this was only for the rear and didn't apply to the fronts. The stock studs are flush with the face of the wheel. For some reason it just didn't sit right, good thing I asked.

That is a pretty good explaination. Thanks. I could think of the proper wording.
