OD

if going from a roll it might help your reaction time to shift it into the proper gear, but racing from a roll is gay anyway so who gives a ****

I disagree, if your racing at the track, you only need three gears anyway so why would you want to leave in OD...and racing from a roll you should drop it into D before goin full throttle, if not then this burns up your 3-4 clutch bands in your trans.. been there done that

OD u will end using the 4th gear while u need the first 3. so stick with the D.

if u have a shift-kit u need to take the advantage of the manual shifting starting with 1st gear.

from a roll i downshift depending on my speed.

since I selled my A4 98 2 1/2 years ago , I dont remmeber from 30 or 60 , u need to practice and find out whats the best gear for best response.

I always leave mine in D. I don't know if their is any benefit from one or the other. Can someone please clarify what happens in these transmissions in WOT between the two selections?

This has been discussed several times in the past and you'll get people telling you to do both, but I do believe most seemed to agree on od because you won't be shifting into od in the 1/4mi and if it's in 3rd you'll be engine braking while you slowing down.

I select 2nd and leave it there thru the burnout. I launch with 2nd selected also. After it auto shifts into second I guard the shifter until the rpm reaches 6200 and manually shift into 3rd. The line pressure seems to be a bit higher when manual 1st or 2nd is selected and its seems to help carry a slightly higher line pressure into 3rd verses leaving it in "D" so this is the reason I shift this way. Anything to get it to live longer. Either way my ETs are the same. For what its worth.

I was always told from a dead stop use OD (for us TA guys) or D (for you Camaro guys). From a roll drop it down into 3.

Right. From all my research that is what I know also. The only issues I have run into are the annoying TCC locking/unlocking when on/off the brakes when trying to go from the right speed, and the transmission not being able to go down into 1st if you are over 25-30mph or so. I believe both of these can be fixed with tuning though.

I'm not sure if your tranny works any different than ours, I didn't see any transmission mods in your sig. However you can't launch from 2nd gear or you will have no power. 2 starts you in 2nd gear and you won't even have 1st. And I don't recommend manually shifting the transmission.

For a drag race from a stop, put it in OD. I have also read something else in the transmission is applied when the shifter is in OD rather than D and gives more holding power. One of the builders would have to comment on that.

i think you may be wrong there im sure that if you put it in 2 then you can't shift past 2 but that you still should have first, and it may hurt the trans if you leave it in 2nd too long but it wont hurt it as long as you manually shift early and if you shift early then it still should stay in 2nd until it is suposed to shift.

i also don't think that it doesn't matter from a stop wether your in d or od because you wont actually shift int overdrive at wot until (someone did the math 250 or so which means never) if you go wot while you are going in od then it could **** up you clutch packs like 1bad98ls1 stated earlier but roll racing is for **** so that should never happen

No, if I use 2 I start in 2 and I don't have 1st gear. I wasn't just making that up. It was like this since the car was bone stock.

A 3.23 geared car (SS or WS6) will go into OD at WOT at 120 something miles per hour. This is assuming shift points haven't been changed.

That is unless it's a 98, like mine. I can leave in 2nd gear(3.23s, A4 car) and it starts out in first, then goes to second. I'm not sure, but I think 98 was the only year that you could do this, the following years if you put it in second then you started out in 2nd.

When I select manual 2nd it starts out in 1st and then auto shifts to 2nd. Since 1st gear tacks out so quick its eaiser to stay consistant with the 1-2 shift being auto. (6200 rpm) As far as tranny mods, I have a few. Motor, tranny, suspension, paint, body, and interior all home built. 58 MM TB and 12 bolt are next. WOOOHOOO!!
