Default 2/3 Bar OS Issues...and preliminary results inside - Video Added

so I just got done spending a collective 12 hrs on the dyno this weekend... fighting with the 3 bar OS system from HPT. spent all day saturday messing with part throttle AFR issues and idle lean out issues which I later found out is a bug in the program from other's experiences....

then came time to go into boost, as soon as you hit the first FI cell 105KPA that is, the PCM will show maximum amount of false knock....13 degrees for me. Upon investigating this, I found it to be another bug which still has not been fixed by HPT, but will be on the next version they put out. Temporary solution? desensitize teh crap out of them ...this was scary for me

spent all day today gettin gthe boost setup. as it turneed out, I didn't even neeed to raise the boost sincec I maxxed out the injectors the first run we did 740 rwhp and 800 something rwtq... MUSTANG DYNO btw.. Boost was same as last time, only 12 psi, good old 93 octane. We did alot of area undeer the curve tuning and gained literally hundreds of rwhp just tuning. Looks like the injectors are able to hold on till 6000 rpms, then the AFR raises to 12.5 at 6700 rpm... Power is still steady, should keep going too 7200 or so when we get more fuel in there

the curve looks amazing, from the pt where we go WOT, its only 200 rpms before full boost is achieved, and it holds above 700 begiining at 5600 all teh way to shut down, and should keep going even higher we get the fuel to rev.

there is still so much tuning to do, just with timing I think we can get another 50 rwhp out of it on top end, we had to set timing pretty conservative since we had basically no knock sensors to rely on. This thing responded amazing to the new top end

stock top end 595 rwhp on same boost for reference and the curve was kind of peaky. Now its a ******* plateau

So I guess now I need some 83 lb injectors or bigger? This thing looks like is pushing around 960 flywheel HP, fuel pressure held steady. HPT scanner showed duty cyle of ~195%

Which brings me to the next problem I had with the HPT 3 bar OS .... THe damn scanner doesn't scan 3 bar, it only goes to 105 KPA also!

despite these little glitches the 3bar OS did allow me to run big numbers on stock PCM, which is what we wanted. But you guys need to fix this, these aare pretty major glitches.

For back ground, my setup is:

347 ci
AFR 225s
TR 224 on a 114
Victor JR intake
intake elbows.com elbow
NW 90mm TB
ARP studs everywhere
GM MLS head gaskets.
Twin master power T70s 0.68 T4 exaust
Custom turbo kit by me
twin walbros in tank
CAS regulator - boost referenced
mototron 60lb injectors (FP is set at 60 psi base)
cclutch that surprisingly held, spec 5with about 20,000 miles of 6-700 rwhp abuse

I will have some video footage soon

HUGEthanks to Lawrence Conley for spending the time with us today finalizing the tune, fastls1 (Jeff) at Conleys for the long hours, ESR (Eric) for all the even longer hours helping to get this thing to where it is, and Mr. Whitman for the oportunity to work with the Conley's crew.

You've got a bad ride with 740 on a Mustang dyno. What injectors, pumps are you using? Boost referenced?

Congrats on the numbers.... Thanks for commenting on the sd programming...I'm sticking with a maf until they get the sd systems optimized.

I believe if you right click on the map guage on the scanner and then click on properties. This will allow you to change the max and min values for the guage to read on the scanner.

If your pumps will handle it, the Mototrons will handle much more pressure to get your DC down.....they've hit 1000rwhp on a dynojet at high fuel pressures.

FWIW I've tuned many cars with HPT 2/3 bar OS and have no such issues.

Damn Tiago that thing is a monster. Glad you got her up and running with the HPT 3 bar OS.

Can't you raise the values in the scanner above 105 KPA, I haven't tried as I haven't gone past that point with my hacked two bar.

Yes, you have to connect the scanner to the car, stop the scanner, then the 3bar MAP PID becomes available.

Thank you this was the second time that scan was a pain in my side. Guess I just did not do enough research on the scanner for 3 bar. It weird I worked on an 02 never ran into this issue. We used the bin from a 2000 and every time it would hit the 105 cell it would knock. Yes it was false knock but sat we were not really sure as to why it would keep coming up. Needless to say Tiago could not sleep and found that issue involving going past the 105 kpa cell and knock. Lawerence has a wealth of knowledge I glad he had the time to come out. Now we just need some bigger injectors and some time to iron out a few other aspects of the tune.

Im not the only one that had these issues, it seems to be related to 98-99-00 OS's from testimonials and HPT confirmaations I found here on TECH and on HPT's board as well.

How can the injectors be showing 195% duty cycle? Once they reach 100% the injector goes static (does not cycle on and off anymore) and is just open all the time.

It's (obviously) not real.... 100% is static as noted. My HPTuners Scanner does this too if you stay in it after they reach static...

thats what the scanner said LOL.. of course they are just pegged

I don't think I would feel safe upping the pressure to squeeze more out of them, maybe complement with some meth for top end cure?

congrats on the numbers...I'd love to see the graph...what version of hpt are you running? I know Chris fixed some bugs in the 98-99 code as per the help file
Fixed - GM 98-99 2bar false knock retard issue. VCM Enhancements must be re-applied to the stock file for this change to take affect.

maybe you just need the update? If so let me know & I'll pm you the link.

Thats probably the exact issue. We tuned around it but would like to get it done correctly. We updated the tunershops last version 5 days after the 98 software came out. So yep were in need of an update I would think. PM tiago and I the link.

Thank You.

i didnt know this was public, yeah tiago, we tested the 98 on my vette just last week, worked perfectly (the fix). Its so nice to have real knock sensors again that you can trust, i feel so much better about the life of my motor hahaha.
