DOOOP!! Flying TTOPS!!!
I was on my way to work today when this new stang keept on trying to race me in heavy traffic, talk about an idiot. So finally we get to a clearing and i see him punch it aroung 35, I hit it and were off....I instantly stoped his pull and passed him around 60 and from 60-100 i was ahead by a few cars when all of a sudden fuum!!! my passanger side ttop flys off I turned and went back to try to find it, and sure enough i found it, all hundred million pieces of it . IDIOT!!!!! I didt even bitch to my self about it i just in aww as i drove 10 min to the neares junk yard and dished out 150$ bucks that could of been used for something alot more usefull than a freakin replacement ttop, the guy wanted 200 butt i talked him down but it wasent very satisfactory. So go ahead laugh it up (specially choco taco, since i was sidding with him on that argument that ttops flying off were a 1-in a thousand accurance)

that happened to me in my 82 t/a once. i was going down a 45mph road near my house and one came off, but since the windows were down i didn't even notice until i got home. after i saw it was missing, i went back out the way i came and was lucky enough to find the top laying on the grass completely un-damaged
now i make sure to close the latch AND lock them as soon as they go back on the car

LMFAO! That's the funniest thing I've heard all week! I'm just glad everything worked out and no one got hurt.
I had an '86GT with T-Tops. If the tops were in,they were locked with the lever and the key! Heard too many stories of people stealing them.
Thanks guys, you made my day!

hah, my dad did this exact same thing (only drivers side) in his hawk going down the track, only the worst part was it was the first run of the day, he couldnt run the rest of the day, and it was his last weekend before his cancer treatment started, but its all good now!

Has anybody heard of them exploding after tinting them. I was going to get mine tinted since I don't have the inserts but the guy that tints my windows told me that he has heard they will sometimes explode after they are in the sun for awhile. Said he had a regular sun roof explode sitting beside the shop on a hot day, thought someone shot the side of the building with a shotgun.

Do you mean that you don't lock them with the key or do you not even pull the handle back? Because they shouldn't ever wiggle. The actual lock is just so someone doesn't steal em or to prevent someone (kids and such) from opening them while moving. But once the handle is back they're good to go.
