Default Cam selection

I am looking to get 400rwh with the install of a cam that would be suitable for street/strip use after it is tuned. I would also like a nice choppy idle after install too. The mods that I currently have that make power are: Pacesetter lt's, TSP ory, SLP Loudmouth catback, Whisper lid. What kind of cam should I be looking at to go with stock heads for now? With the cam, I would also be getting springs, pushrods, timing chain. I have been looking at all of teh posts about cams, but I am stii undecided at which one to go with. Any suggestions woudl be appreciated.

Might look into the F14/F13, torquer 2, and some of TSP's midsized cams...

I'd look at something around a 224/228 @ .050" on 114 lobe seperation.

Will a 114 lobe seperation be noticable at idle?

TSP torquer2 232/234 duration 595/598 lift on a 112 will net you over 400rwhp and one hell of a lopey car. After tuning the drivability will not be an issue especially if you have a 6spd. a 224/228 on a 114 would not have much of a lope to it at all, the cam is way too small.

With a 4 degree advance it will have a tough sounding idle that won't be too rough. If you want it so lopey it rattles your dash apart try KingSS's suggestion. If you want 400hp that pulls like hell right off of idle, go with mine.

When you get 400+ HP, people will take notice, no matter how smooth it idles.

yeah i may not be at 400 HP with my cam but do your self a favor and talk to a mathematician about why tq is used to derive hp, you want tq not hp

do you have a stick or A4?what gears /stall are you running?400hp is cool, but you need to match your cam to the rest of your combo to get the best out of it.you'll want something in the 230+ dur. to net you over 400 hp with stock heads.you will lose drivability in the lower rpm range, but if you can deal with that then go for it.

if you wanted TQ,why did you go with a 114 lsa?a 224 on a 110-111lsa would produce killer TQ down low.and bigger cams still make TQ,just at a higher rpm.but i agree you want a broad power band,or HP under the curve for a street/strip car.

The car is a m6. Stock gears, I believe they are 3.42's

Most definately. Many people say the torquer2 loses a lot of low end power but it really doesnt. The power band is from 1900-6400, if you get some 3.73's or 4'10's your car will fly. Many people have this cam and have been real happy with it due to its daily drivability while still producing great power.
