Default Head gaskets

I'm buying a complete gasket kit (GM), and want to know if I need the 6.0L or 5.7 for my setup. 347 with #317 6.0L heads. Why are the 6.0L head gaskets more expensive? Remember, this will be for a boosted motor, please let me know, I want to make a purchase tonight! Thanks!

You dont want 5.7 gaskets with a 6.0L head, as part of the gasket will hang into the combustion chamber and burn.

Under a stock block you want to match your gaskets with your bore..so most of the time a gasket w/ 3.910" bore and about .050 thickness will do fine, you have the "6.0L" heads not a 6.0L bore correct? May go with a different thickness to adjust slight compression for FI applications...

You can use the stock 5.7 head gasket with the 6.0 head on a 5.7 short block. The thickness on eather gasket is .051 thick. One thing to think about depending on how much boost you plan to run, the 6.0 head gasket will help you drop some compression. It won't be much but any little bit helps! Another thing you might want to consider is a Cometic gasket. We can order them for you in a custom thickness to help bring down compression. Eather way let me know if I can help!!

Are you certain about the 5.7 MLS gasket being .051"? Everything ive read puts them at .060 and the 6.0L gaskets at .052". If the 5.7L gasket is indeed .060" thick, the thickness will add more volume to the combustion chamber than the added bore of the 6.0L gasket will. Id love to think that my 5.7L gasket is .051 and not .060 since it will give me a tighter quench.

It is a must to have the gasket wider than the bore obviously and it must be wider than the combustion chamber otherwise it will hang in the chamber sides and cause detonation and burn. So whatever is wider, the chamber or the bore use that measurement and add at least .010 minumum to be safe on most gaskets. I believe the GM 6.0L's are 4.040" gasket bore.

hehe, no DIRECT answer, I love this. =) I bought the 6.0L MLS gaskets vs the 5.7 "composite" they had advertised. That was their primary concern - the combustion chamber being wider than the gasket, but I have no idea. With the diamond pistons I have, the #317's, and the 6.0L gaskets, I should be around 8.7:1.

You will be good to go with the 6.0L gaskets and the 317 heads, that is a DIRECT answer.
