Default is my hood a true WS6 hood? Strange subtleties...pic inside, help!

I bought this hood recently and currently it's being painted before shipping. The more I look at it, the more I wonder if it's really a WS6 hood. The guy on fbody.com listed it as WS6 and not aftermarket, but what's up with its super-thick edges? He really seems legitimate--we chat on AIM about not just the hood but f-bodies in general, and he always answers my e-mails wondering about the progress of painting it. So what's up with this hood?

No. Look how thick it is. The real GM hood is like 1/4 of that thickness.

I can't figure it out myself...and I can't find ANY aftermarket company that produces a hood that thick. The design is pretty close to WS6 minus the thickness...I guess the curves are less pronounced on this one.

It looks really close proportion wise with the nostrils etc, but the thickness is def way more than my factory hood. I really dont have an answer but thats kinda weird. Try to get the ram air grills from him if are still buying it because they arent cheap. Good luck.

No it's not the stock WS6 hood. To make fiberglass hoods stronger they have much larger corners which is why it looks so thick. It's just the sides and not the entire hood.

That makes me feel better, thanks for explaining!

About the grills...yeah he doesn't have them...and I definitely know that they're insanely expensive. I may fab up some aluminum honeycomb vents.

Thanks for the responses everyone!

No problem but let the seller know that you know it's not a real WS6 hood. There's a huge price difference between a fiberglass one and a real one.

Logically no, they shouldn't be that much. However, we all know how stealerships work. They're $91 PER grill.

Oh yeah it was already a good price I'm getting--$485 after shipping plus his body shop is painting it for me and only charging for parts no labor--so I can't be too displeased.

$91 per grill???? whoa man I guess prices have changed since a few years ago when one of mine was busted. They were $55 from Perrine Pontiac in NJ when I got one. Good luck finding them a cheaper.

Are they helpless or something? anyway, that is a good idea IF you can find any kind of ID numbers on the hood.

Called another dealership across the state back home and they also said $91, there's no escaping it.

Yeah I guess Harwood isn't bad quality and he said it fit his friend's T/A very well, so I shall give it a try.
