excellent race against LS1
hey guys, yes i drive a stang, i know im gonna get a looooot of shtuff for that lol but anyway heres my story. tonight, we were doin some burnouts in the parking lot after work, just bsing. some LS1 camaro, badass thing, is making his way out of the parking lot, and just punches it, that thing ROARED and burned the tires a little bit. so as im leaving, we catch a light, and we both go for it. lemme tell ya, my stang sounds nice at WOT, but the LS1 friggin ROARS. much to my surprise, i pulled a little bit on him in 1st; then in second gear he started to catch up a bit, and through half of third (b4 i cut it off) we were dead even; with noone gaining. we stop at another light, im like "damn that things badass!" hes like "thanks!" and then the light turns green and we both hit it again. he got a better launch this time, and i got a perfect launch, this time im slightly ahead (or maybe just my perception) with me creeping up ever so slightly ahead of him, but not enough to be significant or enough to be a "kill" either way.
we got up to the light, and we chatted a little. his was an a4, bone stock, hes only had it 2 weeks. i let him know what a nice car he had, he said the same to me.
i honestly thought i would get destroyed. i am in no way claiming my mustang is superior to the LS1. im a really good driver IMO, and my mustang is well broken in with 15K miles (5 speed manual). im bone stock. what happened? im pretty sure the camaro is a faster car. it was a 2001. im curious as to how i hung with/slightly pulled on it like this. although i do know that if we would have kept racing, he would have gained about a car on me through 120 mph. we all know, LS1 top end>3v top end.
either way, it was a great way to end the night.
the camaro is probably my favorite car of all time; but as circumstances worked out, i fell in love with and got an s197 stang. i dont have any brand
loyalties whatsoever.

good run, and I'm not surprised. The a4 has a little weeker gear ratio than the M6, so the jump is not surprising to me at all. And if you can bang gears, I think it should be close (not sure what the ratio is on the new stangs). I've only had a chance to race a new GT once. It was a bone stock auto, and mines an M6 (at the time all I had was a SLP CAI and Nitto DRs) and I walked him everytime, but not by that much. We had a couple of highway rolls at about 45 and I put no more than 2 lengths but I was still pulling pretty good. We had one run from a dig, and he got a slight jump on me, but again I pulled him. In a 1/4 I figure I would have had no more than 3-3 1/2 lengths on him which is really just a few tenths.
Good kills though...And yes you can call them kills. A win is a win is a win, whether it is 5 feet or 5 lengths.

lol yea well the a4 has quite a disadvantage with the stock 2.73's. my car runs 3.55's out back, so for starters, theres that. i seriously doubt i could hang with a 3.42 geared manual LS1, after seeing what this one could do. but hey, thats what a CAI/tune and 4.10's are for lol

definitely get CAI and a diablo tuner.
My friend has a 2006 GT and I have a 98 WS6 M6. With just a lid and him stock I put about 3 cars on him 50-135, then he got the CAI and a Diablo tuner, and I got catback exhaust adn a better clutch and from 50-110 I had maybe 3 or 4 feet on him, his nose was at my front wheels, but I was pulling a little.
But ya, the CAI and tune will help you a ton

I think that everyone with an 05 GT should first get a programmer. Itll get rid of that eletronic crap that closes the TB at higher rpms. Plus its been proven to give like 20hp more lol.

haha. well it sure did sound MEAN. like any car, it could benefit from some exhaust, but jesus, it sounded nice as hell as is.
thanks for the compliments guys. i can say with confidence that if we would have kept going, he would have easily started walking me.
the CAI/tuner thing is probably the best thing for the mustang; it has all this electronic crap/limiters on it as stock, which it would do MUCH better without. not even necessarily HP, just throttle response and such. CAI, tune, and gears with some sticky tires and a good driver will, according to some, put me in the 12's, but i doubt that. im just lookin to be faster than a bone stock 3.42 geared M6 LS1. which could be difficult from what i've heard lol.
btw, how does the post count thing work on LS1? which sections count, which dont?

^dirty post *****.
Lol, I used to sell the new 'stangs and They are VERY NICE inside and out, my only complaint is the electronic throttle control felt funky and the tires are a wee touch narrow for a performance car. Heck, crown vic's have tires almost as wide. Also, I had to persuade half a dozen customers that the popping from the front end was their imagination in slow turns Have they fixed that popping yet?
PS. The new 'stangs LOVE! some tunin'

DIdnt mean to sound so jaded in that post, I was just annoyed at those 3 things, the car is a great car and TONNES more stable than the 99-04 ESPECIALLY in the convertible, I test rode in both with customers and the 99-04 'vert felt flimsy as hell compared to the 05.
