Default FS: 1998 NBM Trans Am (Cam Only)

I'm selling my 98 Trans am, and it's really a hard thing to do. The car now has 77,4xx miles on the clock. Gas prices are getting high, and I honestly can't afford to keep up with the car.

Here's the history of my car. Bought in May of 98, my older brother had the car until 2003, where he handed it down to me. When I got the car, he had done nothing to the engine except for a Lid, cut-out, and free mods.

My first mod were the Dynatech Headers/Off road y-pipe in 2004, which I just replaced 2 weeks ago with some NEW PACESETTER's and the 3'' Off road y-pipe!!! I went for about a year with just those mods, and then got the LS6 Intake in 2005. In December of 2005, I put the X1 cam, Comp 918 Valve Springs, Comp Hardened Pushrods, LS2 Timing Chain, LS6 Oil Pump, Hypertech 160 Thermostat, ASP Underdrive Pulley, New Belts, along with Mobil 1 Engine Oil.

About 2 months ago, I finnaly put the Converter in. It's the TCI 3200 Stall, and has put a smile on my face ever since.

Car put down 379rwhp, and went 12.4 with the old leaky headers that I got rid of,
and replaced with the new Pacesetter's. The TA is ready to go!

Here's a list of Performance Parts:

Modifications

Engine:

-MTI X1 230/227 .591/.571 112 ($225 from Board member)
-TCI 3200 Stall ($300 from Board member)
-LS6 Intake Manifold ($325 from Board member)
-ASP Underdrive Pulley ($125 from Board member)
-Comp 918's Valve Springs ($110 from Board member)
-Comp 7.4 Pushrods ($90 from Board member)
-LS6 Oil pump ($79 Discounted from Cam Installer)
-Direct Flow Lid ($45 from Board member)
-Hypertech 160 Thermostat ($25 from Board member)
-Ported MAF (Home ported)
-LS2 Timing Chain ($45 from Autozone)
-Fast Toys Ram Air ($50 from Board member)
-TB Coolant bypass (Home Mod)
-TB bump stop mod (Home Mod)
-!EGR (HP Tuners Deleted) taken out of engine
-!AIR (HP Tuners Deleted) taken out of engine

Exhaust:

-Pacesetter Long Tube Headers ($499.99 from Byunspeed) Purchased May 9, 2006
-Pacesetter 3" Off-road y-pipe
-3'' cutout ($10 from friend)
-Flowmaster 80 series muffler (Free from Board member)
-Monza chrome slash tips ($30 from board member)

Suspension:

-18x9.5 Chrome ZO6 Wheels w/ 90% Tire Tread left.
(Traded when I had my Black ZR1's from Orion565)
-BMR STB ($90 from board member)

HP Tuners Speed Density Tuned (12/25/2005)
Retuned after Converter (4/15/2005)

-Raised WOT timing from 18 degrees to 23.

-Correct WOT air/fuel ratio to approximately 12.6-12.7 from 3500 rpms up to redline.

-Disengaged all engine and transmission torque management functions.

-Lowered WOT shift enable TPS thresholds. Basically allows the car to WOT shift sooner right when you floor it. Quicker shift response. Also disengaged 3rd gear torque converter lockup. 4th gear lockup activates at 50 mph.

-Set speed limiter to 250 mph

Everything on the car works fine except the transmission is acting up. The car still drives perfect. I've droven the car numerous times, and still do with the condition of the tranny right now. Car Idles at a nice 850rpm, and Lopes hard on the 112LSA.

The Torque Converter might be needing a rebuild, or it might be the tranny.
Reason I think it's the converter, is because it won't downshift into a lower gear when floored. The Converter was bought used, so this probably is the problem. Converter rebulds won't cost alot.

If the Transmission is the problem. The rebuild from James Lovelady or Century will be around $1200. Tranny rebuilds are a must with Stall/Cammed LS1's. They will go out eventually.

I've taken the car to the track a couple times. Best time was a 12.4 due to my shitty headers I had on before. I didn't get the chance to go back to the track with my new headers.

With a built transmission, and some 3.73's...I have no doubt the car will run 11.9's all day long. I was going to drop the extra $1500 for the rebuild, and slap on the gears later...but my decision stands.

Again, I can't afford the keep up with the car, and am forced to sell it. I've pretty much emptied my wallet into the car, and now I'm focosed on school etc.

I've done my research, and know I can't get any more out of the car, just because I've done mods etc. I know that's hard for alot of people, but I'm as honest as they come. The car has been in the family since 98, and has been kept up with since then.

I will post pictures up when I get a camera to do so. If you have any questions or concern, feel free to email me at Darkhawkls1@yahoo.com

Here are some pictures of the car when I had my Black ZR1's on a couple months ago.

Not bad at all, I drive it everyday still. It just wont downshift when floored. I'm thinking it's just the MAF that I probably over ported.

That car looks very familiar to me for some reason. Didn't it used to have stripes all the way from the front and had these odd looking silver 18" wheels? Did your older brother post on the forums as Hornet?

Yes, my older bro's name is Michael. Most of the first LS1 guys on LS1.com used to hang out with him. Bad Habit Bird also knew of him on my other thread. It used to be the "Hornet TA". Had full racing stripes, with the all time favorite mesh front license plate cover.

I have since transformed the TA.
