problem with Pacesetter LTs
I've had pacesetter LTs (purchased brand new from a sponsor) for about the last 9-10 months. Today, while driving home from work I hear a snapping sound from the passenger side engine bay followed by the sound of a big-time exhaust leak. I pull over, pop the hood and find that the EGR fitting on the #6 tube has been shot off and now has a gaping hole. (My car is an '01 without EGR so this fitting was plated off with the supplied hardware.)
I checked out the other fittings and the welds have turned white around the edges.
Has this happened to anyone else? Does Pacesetter have a one year warranty or anything? Can I get someone to just weld a patch over the whole and be okay? Does this white rim around the welds sound like the other fittings are going to fail too?
Thanks for the help

Had that happen to mine also. I was waiting for a replacement but it took forever, so, I just took the header off and had the hole plugged up. The plates that the LT's come with are rather heavy, I think, and with all the rocking off the engine, its only a matter of time till they break free... My next set are going to be the race style being I dont have any AIR either....

I have the coated race version and mine split a weld out, on the #3 cylinder primary tube. It did this 3-5 weeks after I installed them. I had my motor out putting a cam in it(MS4) and I was waiting on the replacement they where suppposed to send but I ended up putting the motor back with old header that I patched up since a replacement has yet to arrive and i needed to get the car running to get it to the paint shop. I'm not sure but I think I might be getting the run around about the replacement

I hope I got this right, but in any event, there's 2 fittings on each side and I only need one. My question is if I even really need the AIR system.

NO, you don't need the AIR system. It is used to help heat the cats faster (technically, to reach light-off temperature, or so its called) during startup. Removing it also gets rid of that howling sound when you first start your car.

Well, Pacesetter actually sent out a replacement pretty quickly. I decided to go with the off road version and so far it is working out pretty well. Of course, it still cost me over $300 to do the header swap (Y pipe had to be cut and rewelded to get the header off).
