pilot bearings, who all has had them fail?
I just got done pulling mine.
The bearing races had come apart and the fulcrums( i think that what the needle bearings are called) were all over the place. I had to break it out. I was wondering who all has had them fail and how hard they were to get out ?
Post some pics if you have em too

I just got done pulling mine last night. I destoryed it trying to get it out, but finally got it. I don't have pics because it is all over the floor. I replaced mine just to do it since I was there doing my clutch swap. I pinch the hell out of my finger with a slide hammer and had to slide it very hard about 30 time to get it out. PITA! But I would do it again next clutch swap!

Those who have had problems with them may have a hard time accepting the fact that the bearing is mich more durable. There is much more drag on a bushing and it is in a very hot & dirty environment. I think alot of the bearing carnage happens on trans re-installs where the pilot/ crank alignment is a struggle. A trans input bashing into that little bearing can do some damage. Time following those bumps tell the tale. I would stick with the bearings.

A friend of mine who is the shop foreman at a local Chevy dealer pulled his tranny out to put a 408 iron block in his car and found that the pilot bearing was trashed. The car only has 11,000 original miles on it. He put a brass bushing back in.
