Question $2600 to rebuild auto tranny?

I recently went to cottman transmission here in Houston to get my auto tranny checked on my 2001 Z28. My transmission felt like it was sticking while changing gears. It would take a little longer than usual to change gears, so I had it checked. They called me back and told me it would be $2600 to rebuild it because they said it was damaged. Is this price reasonable? Is it what most people would expect to pay for a rebuilt automatic transmission? Any info would help.

No way would I pay that much for a basic rebuild. Check out some of the sponsors on this site. You can get a built trans around that price.

I had mine rebuilt by Cottmans and it cost me $2700. I then found out I got raped by the manager because he said he would rebuild it to be bullit proof and...well...... 5 months later it is now back in the shop with problems. I would not recomend cottmans to anyone.

you can get a built transmission for nearly $1000 less from a reputable sponsor that'll take a whole lot of punishment. that price is obscene and it's made to take money from the ignorant.

i wouldn't pay more than $1,000 for a FULL race rebuild of my transmission. for a few hundred more you can get a whole new built-up unit. ridiculous.

****, you can get a brand spanking new factory 4L65E w/zero miles on it for less money than that!

ummm, NO.

As others have stated, if you're gonna shell out that kind of money, get a built A4 and never have to worry about it again.

DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT GO TO COTTMANS, biggest rip off I have ever heard of, might as well **** your money down the toilet, since you live in H-town(like me) there are many reputable sponsors...MTI, HPE, conleys, etc...I would reccomend buying the rebuild kit off of ebay ex. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HD-PE...QQcmdZViewItem , spend $250 there then drop the tranny yourself(if you can put on lt's you can do this on jackstands no prob) I have done it several times, then take the trans and the rebuild kit to a rep. place and they should rebuild it for around $500-$600 so you spend only $850 saving you around $1800, dont get ripped like that man

Too many shops in Houston that can build you a badass tranny for way less than that.
