Default 4l60e worth keeping?

I just bought a 5.3l engine and trans out of a 2003 2wd truck with 43000 miles. I am planning on putting the engine in my vw bug maybe this winter to replace my 283 sbc. I am debating weather to hold on to the 4l60e or dump it and build a th350.

Right now the car is running with a 283 sbc, tpi intake, megasquirt II comp., th350 trans, ford 9" with 2.75 gears, 295500r tires. The car right now is pretty quick, by no means would I call it a rocket, but quick. It will do very nice burnouts and cherps into second. It cruses at 70 mph at around 2400 rpm, not to bad.

So my delemma is what to do with this trans. I love the idea of the better first gear and overdrive, and the lock up convertor, but hate the fact that I will need a controller, driveshaft, and shifter. Also I dont know if the 4l60e would hold up to constant abuse I would throw at it

Jeezzz, I probibly answered my own question, just thought I would get some feedback before I try and sell it. BTW how much is a used 4l60e with convertor worth?

thanks,

Matt

Sounds like you might be better off going to an older 4spd auto. Then comes the question of how it will work with all the other electronics, expecting you'll be doing a full swap to keep all that in order. But if you're doing this with aftermarket electronics, the trans won't matter. You'll just need to be sure whatever you get either bolts right in, or there's an adapter plate for it somewhere out there.
