Default Stuck In 4th Gear

My Trans Am has 43,000 miles on it and 4th gear felt like it was getting harder and harder to get out of gear. I thought that Dextron III ATF was **** so I put GM Synchromesh in and it still got worse. Today, I was driving in 4th gear and there was no way out. I drove it all the way home in 4th gear it is still stuck. Any suggestions on what I should do?

Happened to me once. I just man-handled it out of gear. Though I bent the 4th gear shift fork in the process. Looks like you need a rebuild.

Set yourself up in the back seat so that you get a good angle. Then, KICK THE LIVING **** OUTTA THAT SHIFTER. If that doesnt work, then you know the tranny is toast. I realize what I said sounds harsh and all, but 4th gear is gone regardless, so might as well try and buy a little time by getting it out of fourth ?

damn that sounds like fun ^^^ Good luck man.

A good person to call with tranny issues is one of our sponsors, t56rebuilds.com

They'll give you good advice even if you don't plan on sending them your tranny.

The syncro key probably came apart, jamming the syncro so you can not shift.

The weird thing is when I got it home it was still stuck in 4th after I turned the car off. I went ahead and took out the center console and took off the shifter to start the tranny removal. A friend of mine wanted to feel what it felt like so I slapped the shifter back on real quick and it came out of gear and shifted through every gear fine. I went and drove it and it got stuck in 4th again. When I pulled in the garage and turned the car off, it came out of gear. Still sound like a broken slider key?

Yes, it does. Tranny is in need of a rebuild man. Dont push it any further unless you'd like to replace more things.
