Stuck In 4th Gear
My Trans Am has 43,000 miles on it and 4th gear felt like it was getting harder and harder to get out of gear. I thought that Dextron III ATF was **** so I put GM Synchromesh in and it still got worse. Today, I was driving in 4th gear and there was no way out. I drove it all the way home in 4th gear it is still stuck. Any suggestions on what I should do?

Set yourself up in the back seat so that you get a good angle. Then, KICK THE LIVING **** OUTTA THAT SHIFTER. If that doesnt work, then you know the tranny is toast. I realize what I said sounds harsh and all, but 4th gear is gone regardless, so might as well try and buy a little time by getting it out of fourth ?

The weird thing is when I got it home it was still stuck in 4th after I turned the car off. I went ahead and took out the center console and took off the shifter to start the tranny removal. A friend of mine wanted to feel what it felt like so I slapped the shifter back on real quick and it came out of gear and shifted through every gear fine. I went and drove it and it got stuck in 4th again. When I pulled in the garage and turned the car off, it came out of gear. Still sound like a broken slider key?
