512whp 300zx Goes Down This guy with a wicked-fast car raced a wicked-fast 300ZX Saturday night.
The 300 had all upgraded parts, blah blah blah. The other car had a 408 LS1. The LS1 crowd told the driver of the 300ZX that it was a cam only LS1 to entice an easy kill. The 300ZX accepted, and they went out to thew drag strip. The 408 guy asked how the 300ZX wanted to do it, and they said 60 roll. The LS1 guy agreed, and then they went up the strip at 60mph to start the race. Neither car's horn could be heard over the exhaust tone, so the LS1 guy told the 300ZX driver to just go, and that they would follow their lead - the LS1 guy didn't want to take off first because then that could be an excuse to fall back on; that was not allowed.
3rd gear hit for the guy in the LS1, he took off after the 300ZX, and passed at the top of 3rd. Then he shifted into 4th, drop the clutch, hammered it down, and broke that bitch loose all over the road - had to let out due to wheelhop at excessive speeds, which I have never heard of happening from a roll; that LS1 was bad.
Second attempt, same thing; 300ZX goes, LS1 follows their lead. This time, the LS1 driver granny and short shifted into 4tht, it had TT and nitrous. The LS1 had engine
Of course, after all was said and done, the usual comments came, "If I had race gas", "If I turned the boost up". I will translate this into simpler terms - "If my car was faster I would have won." No ****??? Who woulda' thunk???
The LS1 guy could have said, "well let me get the bottle" or "let me put a bigger engine in it" or "let me boost the **** out of the LS1". But, he didn't have to because of 1 reason - he won.
Good times. Let it be known that this LS1 guy has nothing against the 300ZX - it really was pretty ******' fast, and it hung in there better than anything else ever has. The LS1 driver normally would not have raced, but this was one challenge that was hard to back away from. After it was done, the LS1 guy confessed what all was done, and everyone was cool about it.
Oh yeah, I was the LS1 guy. But again, this story is made up, lol. They said I was the first to beat them. Wheelhop at 80mph is extremely scary BTW

I love how they never acknowledged that they were racing an all motor car while they sprayed and boosted. All they did was try to talk about how they could have got me. I didn't complain about how I could have sprayed or anyting because I didn't have to - I won. and if they did beat me, I would have shook his hand and congratulated him for outrunning such a powerful car. It takes quite a bit to outrun my car, but it can be done, and if someone does it, they'll get nothing but respect - not a bunch of useless excuses.

SO this is a real story? How did you break the tires loose in 4th? I make more power than you and on 255's street tires I don't do that.
Anyway, nice kill. 300Zx's are pretty nice cars, but they are pigs.

Beating 300ZXs from a roll is no joke. Those cars are heavy, but that does not matter near as much in 3rd gear and up. They are well suited to high speed rolls.

It broke them loose, no kidding. I think it has to do with most of the weight in the front end dueto being an iron block, and the rear has little to no weight to keep it planted very well. I need to work on some suspension mods to keep that from happening any more, but I kid not - it broke loose and started wheelhopping. I couldn't believe it either. I wish I caught the race on film. May be we'll go at it again some time soon, and I can post the vid.
As for the 300ZX, it was bult by Z1 Motorsports and that car won the dyno comp at z nationals. It can be seen here:

The car did just over 500whp on pump gas, but passed the 600 mark on race gas.

hey the car really for some odd reason did wheel hop for what reason i dont know but i was about a car length behind when the race started walked all over the road and could see the back of the car jumping around
