Default New Gauges/LEDS in my Trans Am-Pics

Here are my new gauges. The cluster is my stock Trans Am cluster.
I also decided to take a few pics of the LEDS I have had in my car. Sorry some of the pics are so dark.

LEDS:

(Front map lights)

(Rear dome)

(LEDS Vs. Stock amber lights)

What do you think?

That definitely looks way better. I'm definitely interested in doing the same. Sometimes its the little things that set it off!

I used three LED bulbs, two in the map light one in the dome. Each bulb contains nine LEDS. The part# is 212-2, even though 906 is specified for the rear dome light. I just bent the prongs slightly to fit the 212-2.

That's because it's turned off in the second pic.

Where did you get your bulbs from? I'm anxious to get them and get them in the car. I have looked around online and have seen 2 led bulbs that replace 212-2. Not sure which one to get. The sites I have been looking on don't have a lot of information on them.

Sweet man, looks nice. Is there visably more light in the car with them, or do they just look brighter due to white light?

The interior is definately brighter. The white does help to "brighten it up" since the amber ones are so dull, but the LEDS do shine more light. Thanks for the the comments.

It looks GREAT! I was going to order the map and dome lights from LEDGauges but he says they don't make them anymore...

SO, a detailed write-up would make you my hero !

I ordered mine from Velocity LEDS. BTW, since the photos above contain a non-sponsor link, they will probably be removed.

I have not seen this kind:

I used this kind for the map lights and rear dome:

According to their bulb guide they specify a 906 for the rear dome, but like I said I just bent the prongs slighty and was able to fit the 212-2. It is much brighter because the 212-2 contains 9 LEDS and the 906 I ordered only had 6. Also, on deciding which 212-2 to get, the number of LEDS is probably the only difference.

Here is the other type of 212-2 they have,

This bulb contains "6 LED 'chips' which equals 12 LEDS",so slightly brighter than the other 212-2.

Also, $6.99 seems expensive but it saves you the hassle of buying the LEDS and circuit boards yourself and then having to cut and soder. Take your stock bulbs out, put the new LED bulbs in and your done.

after taking off one of the covers on my rearview mirror to look at the lights. The current bulbs that are in there arent 2 ended. They are round end bulbs. Look more like 194s than the festoon dome bulbs. Any difference in the interior lights between '98 and '01?

I checked Sylvania's bulb guide and you are correct. There is a difference. I just assumed they were the same . Here is the list for each year:

1998 PONTIAC Firebird Trans AM

Map light
212-2

Dome light
906

1999 PONTIAC Firebird Trans AM

Map light
212-2

Dome light
906

2000 PONTIAC Firebird Trans AM

Map light
214-2

Dome light
214-2
561

2001 PONTIAC Firebird Trans AM

Map light
214-2

Dome light
214-2
561

2002 PONTIAC Firebird Trans AM

Map light
214-2

Dome light
214-2

I think the Firebirds are the same, but just for accuracy:

1998 PONTIAC Firebird Exc. Trans AM

Map light
212-2

Dome light
906

1999 PONTIAC Firebird Exc. Trans AM

Map light
212-2

Dome light
906

2000 PONTIAC Firebird Exc. Trans AM

Map light
214-2

Dome light
214-2
561

2001 PONTIAC Firebird Exc. Trans AM

Map light
214-2

Dome light
214-2
561

2002 PONTIAC Firebird Exc. Trans AM

Map light

Dome light

This doesn't make any sense. The application numbers for the festoon bulb includes your 214-2:SUPER WHITE 9 LED DOME LIGHT BULB 212 211 212-2 214-2. So, it should fit? But you checked your Map Lights and seem to be 194's? I'm too.

I ran outside and got some pics of them as well just to show you guys what I'm talking about. This is what I see when i look up at the driver's side map light in the rear view mirror. Passenger side is the same type of bulb. I believe its a 194.

I looked at the back dome light and it is a festoon dome with the metal wire on the end. I see what you were saying about bending the prongs to get it to fit though, so that shouldnt be a problem.

Actually for the rear, this is what you need:

The prongs fit into the sides so you don't have to bend them. However, I did not see any on Velocity LEDS' website. I have seen them on eBay though. As far as your front map lights if you think it's a 194 I'd say go for it. I would go with at least the 6 LEDS LARGE. Also, to be sure its a 194 and not a 921 or 912, I'd pull out your stock map lights and compare the shape to the photos on their website.
