New TT Z project.. not what you might be thinking..should be FUN!
well guys,
the newest edition to the stable is arriving on september 2nd... some pics are below.. it is not an LT1 nor LT4, nor LS1,6,7.. it is a different animal that I think will lend itself esxcellently to my new build!
who thinks 4 cams, is 3 too many? 16 injectors, 32 valves, 16 intake runners.. moderation is for candy asses! excess RULES!
this car in bone stock form laid down recently 334rwhp.. this is stock performance for a 1991 car.. very impressive to say the least.. with mild mods including headers a cat back exhaust, cat delete, and cam phasing along with a retune, these cars generally ar around 400rwhp without unbolting the heads or porting anything.. they respond extremely well to exhaust mods and with the removal of the 7200rpm rev limit, the power continues to go up. the stock motor is 8000rpm safe as comes from the factory.. a wonderful platform! I hope you enjoy the pictures!

this fella will be getting treated to a stroked and beefed up 368ci shortblock with stage 3 porting to the heads and plenum and throttle body. stage 3 cams (all 4 of them lol) upgraded fuel system, a set of custom fabricated SS manifolds where a pair of turbos will find a home. I am shooting for a similar setup to what Jim (Intmid8) is doing with his LS1 twin setup.. obviously it will be tremendously different between the two cars and engines, but similar locations.
I am also looking at going with a pair of GT35R turbochargers but may look for something a little bit bigger given the operating tange of this engine. the new shortblock will be spun to around 7500-8000rpm. these guys like to rev pretty good with the 4 valves per cylinder.. the factory redline was 7200rpm.. but I have seen some of these engine spinning and making power in excess of 9000rpm.

well.. I don't build track cars...lol I know some says its a waste, but I like rowing my gears I have an 85 that will be a drag only car with a TH400 and ford 9" conversion.
this car will retain the ZF black tag 6 speed trasnmission and will likely make a trip out to the ZF doc for hardened shafts and porting of the oil passages and an oil cooler.

PSJ,
yeah man.. soem of the 415 strokers out there are trapping in the 131-132 mph range on all motor.. its insane what this platform is capable of. I am sure lookin forward to finding out. intially we will do a low boost configuration on the stock engine of around 7-8psi... some of the others on here with a few little mods and good tuning are hitting near the 580-600rwhp mark on stock engine at these boost levels. it is tough as the SCR of the LT5 is 11:1 but some of the benefits are the very well suited combustion chamber design with the 4 valves and the centered spark plugs. I am glad this engine has the spread port exhaust like the LS1's do.. that will make building the new turbo manifolds ALOT easier then the 4,6 5,7 next to each other design of the Gen1 & 2 SBC. the other great thing about this and don't hate guys.. is the plugs are in the middle of the valve cover which offers ALOT more felxibility when designing the headers primary routing... unfortunately the room on the side of the engine is decreased due to the twin overhead cam design.. so its give and take but in the end I think this project will definately be well worth the time and sweat put into it.. and as always I will keep updates for any who may be interested in following along!

this car is a high miler 100k+ appearance is very good and engine is perfect.. these engines are good for 200K + miles and then some from what I have been reading.. very well put together!
it was purchased as a high mileage project car, I have no fear of molesting rare cars for the sake of fun and power, but I would not put an initial outlay of what a low mileage ZR1 goes for.. this car was purchased at a very reasonable price as opposed to the 30K plus dollar Z's you may run across.. even the mid to low 20K cars are starting to go up again.. the market fluctuates pretty regularly on them.
