I had a thought about using the factory a/c condensor as a cooler for the fluid in an A2W setup. Anybody heard of this, or think it would work? The condensor is about 1" thick and about 400 sq inches in surface area.

I would think it might work somehow, but your basically putting a lot more load on the motor when the condensor runs, thats why no one ever runs it at the track.

If you could get it powered by another source, that might be a good idea then.

I think you misunderstood. I meant just use the condensor; the rest of the a/c would be out of the car. I would have a small electric water pump to move the fluid thru the i/c and condensor.

What I am trying to understand is if you can get an a2w setup to work effecitvely for street use. I have been told that on the street the water will heat up too much and make the i/c much less effective than a2a.

I am just thinking if this is the main drawback to a2w then can you get a large enough cooler that it could work as well as a2a.

EDIT. Did not see you are removing your ac completely. The conden. core might be large but look at the air hitting it, and the passage ways throu the core. Have not looked at one in a long time, but I think you would see alot of head pressure on the pump.

if you have a cooler and fan then an A2W will work well for street use, mighty mouse has one and works just fine.

i dont think the AC heat exchanger is made to cool water, just wondering about the pressure drop when flowing water through there.

i have a water cooler i was going to use for an A2W IC, but changed my setup a little where im not going to use it now.

Ricky, thanks for the links. Where do you get all this info?

I was wondering about the pressure to push water thru the condensor. It likely is not an issue when it was designed since entering material would be vapor, and the a/c compressor is positive displacment.

It still might make an interesting experiment to try.

i have seen a air to water setup on an evo. it was designed to keep inlet temps down for about 15min! the pre rad was the size of the cars rad if not bigger!!!!!!!

i would get the biggest prerad you can find!

or maybe use a smaller air2air setup?????

Somebody did this on here, with a G trim vortech, search for pics, as I don't recall who they were. They also made the aftercooler from the heat exchanger from the HVAC system)

Pending the type of condenser the only issue you would have would be a water pump that could handle the pressure that is needed to push through the condenser. Most condensers get tested at 300psi prior to being filled with about 20psi of nitrogen for storage. Serpentine cores wouldnt be as bad on a water pump compaired to a parallel flow type but; parallel flow would be the most efficient for that use. I would use an electric type fuel pump because it can handle alot of psi compaired to say a bilge type pump and the more PSI you put to the system the higher the boiling point would be and you do not want the water to boil.....
