How loud are dumped true duals?
Im looking at ditching the ypipe for some dumped duals. I do plan on a h/c combo later with around a 233/239 cam. How loud is this gonna be? is there a pair of mufflers that would make this setup bareable, i have a 2hr round trip commute each day...
I dont want the expense of taking true duals out the back, so its either keep the ypipe with corsa exhaust or the dumped duals

so loud i would not have it in a driver that sees a fair amount of miles..have had a couple cars so loud i am sure my hearing loss is because of it---not worth it at all in the long run.

loud under your car, but louder out back if you bring them all the way back! the loud that people hear is mostly due to the fact that you have that dumped exhaust pounding onto the ground. base boom! you can make the duals quite, but that would defeat its purpose of being all about the performance. keep the y and place an ellectric cutout on it if you want the quite and the performance at the flip of a switch.
imho.
imho.

I was thinking about it, i havent looked to see if its possible, but from the dumps could you extend the pipe another foot or so out towards the side of the car? That should help some, has anyone done it? Im not necessarily saying side exhaust, just add some length to the pipe to help cut down on noise

i have dumped before axle w/ ory and it souinds louder than my friend (fullcollapse) who has a 98 t/a with pacesetter lt's, tsp true duals w/ sweet thunders. honestly, its not that bad when your driving the car. If you take it easy on the revs, its not that bad to be honest wtih you.
If you do get it done, drive it around and get a feel for it. then let your good friends drive it around the block for you while you sit on the curb and listen to how obnoxiously loud it is! haha you really dont know how loud it is untill you see somebody else driving your car

If your not gona take the duals out back, go with the Corsa/H/C combo, my brother has it and you will NOT be disappointed. Worrying about not being loud enough is not a problem with that set-up.

I have 2 true dual setups. One is the "quiet" one, it's simply a 2 1/2" pipe run back to Eldebrock RPM muffler (4" case) (Jegs) and dumps before the axle. It's a great sound, especially when I hammer it. I have no problems talking on the phone, or to passengers, no ears ringing.
The second one I put on when I want the best flow, and the loudest sound. That one is a mandrel bend custom pipe, 3" back to a 3" Dynomax bullet muffler, also dumps before the axle. Yes, it's ******* LOUD, especially when you hammer it. Cops hate it, but everyone at the car shows I go to love it. Sounds like NASCAR. I see a big difference in power between the 2, as the first is restrictive. Both have their place.
I think that future plans are for a custom Y- into a Flowmaster 2 into 1 collector, back to a SLP dual dual, and a cutout on each side of the cutout. I'll keep the bullets for track use.
What I dont like about the true duals is that when they dump befor ethe axle, they kick up dust & dirt. I my car is literaly dirty after driving one block, so it's a real pain to keep clean, esp on a black car.
