Post Can I go from LT-1 to LS-1?

Need some advice. I have a 93 Firebird Formula with the LT-1. The motor is shot, and I do not want another LT-1. Can I install a LS-1 in place of the LT-1? If so, what modifications do I need to do to the fuel system, computer, mounting to the tranny (it's automatic, not my choice but...), motor mounts, etc., etc.??? And, what about using the existing tranny, driveshaft and rearend? Or, would they need to be replaced, rebuilt, beefed-up...

Please reply here, or e-mail me at spkatz@yahoo.com. Thanks!!!!

Regards,

Steve

Look in the LT1-LT4 modification thread. When you get there, search that thread and there will be 2 pages of posts that poeple have put in there about doing a LT1 to LS1 swap. I am pretty sure that you will find what you are looking for there! Good luck!

I've seen quite a few LS1s selling in the $6K range, probably cheaper just to sell your car and buy one of those.

-computer
-engine wiring harness
-exhaust system
-LS1 engine
-not sure if your gauges would work
-not sure if your tranny/converter is the same (probably is)

Unless you had an LS1 engine lying around for free, you'll probably LOSE money doing the swap and work your tail off in the process.

Just sell that one for parts and put the money towards a 90k mile LS1 f-body. Trust me. ~Joshua

I can't agree more. Sell yours and buy an ls1 f-body
