Default YSi head unit mounting question

Can it be mounted in the same spot as the standard vortech kit? I plan on keeping my stock air lid location so the vortech comes with a pretty nice set-up for this. Then I'd like to do some cusom plumbing to a fmi. Right now my only option seems to be the vortech kit but I want the larger YSi unit. Any other options you guys can think of? I like the D1SC also but I don't like where it mounts.

yes but you need to buy the bracket from RMCR. The G trim bracket will not work.

Contact Speed Inc they sell a YSi kit with a front mount, you'll have to custom fab the piping which anybody can do for ya.

Hope you have a forged bottom end and a good set of valvesprings.

good luck and let me know how it goes, its my goal to upgrade to a YSi.

Does the RGR bracket allow you to use the stock SS hood without butchering it? Stock fans still in place?

RGR bracket?

You have to clearance the hood for the G trim, so you would probably have to notch a little more or run a different hood. The YSi is a much bigger unit.

gives you a chance to run a more aggressive looking hood, that's the way i look at it.

stock fans are retained.

If the search was working you'd probably find some useful info from the past couple of years. I did quite a bit of research a couple of weeks ago before acquiring my new T-Trim. From what I found, the YSi has a larger diameter outlet, and is going to sit higher than the G & T-trim. If I remember correctly, from what I read, the YSi will not fit in the same location without modifying the hood on a Camaro. Not sure about your T/A, you might be ok.

I am having RMCR do a custom intake system for me. I should get it next week. It will use a 4" intake designed for no MAF (currently on pressure side). The air box lid is made to match out of metal with the intake coming into the corner (like the Spectacle Solutions lid). They say I will have to cut into the hood (between the Ram Air humps) so the YSi outlet tube will fit. They also said I would have to relocate at least the #1 coil. I got the Thunder Racing wire relocation kit. They also had me send my power steering pump in (don't know exactly why). I run a FMIC which you can see in my sig. link when it had the T-trim. I do plan to eventually weld the cold tubing so I don't have so many silicone connectors.

hmm RMCR made no mention that the #1 coil would have to be relocated.

Looks like mine And Inspector 12 sent me the spec sol lid and I didnt gain ****. Im not sure if the motor was allready hurt or not but we will see this round. Ill try it one more time if not Im going to send it back to him. #1 Coil pack WILL not clear with the YSI on the T trim bracket. I am 100% sure of it. You will have to relocate it farther down or out of the way. And the hood will have to be notched. Theres barley enuff room for my T trim much less a monster YSI! With a ram air hood!

I can still make more with this kit remember thats with a 2.95 pulley and 11 psi We will see what she will put down thru the 4l80 by next week. If I still have the kit.

I ran the custom YSi Speed Inc./SS Racing kit. It placed the YSi blower down where the alternator would normally be.

I would not run the stock Vortech aftercooler with the YSi.

just curious how much would you sell it for? Think all I would need is the bracket and the compressor right? let me know

pm me if you want

and definitely run it with the blower before you change setups to see how much of a difference it makes.

I was thinking about using the ice chest and water pump from the race car and plumbing it back to the aftercooler to see what results I might get since I have the parts anyway. I did initially loose three lbs. boost going to the front mount. I'm thinking the aftercooler might still work well if it had a real high flow of ice water through it. I really don't think it's all that restrictive even though it does neck down to a 2 1/2 inlet. The guys at RMCR were talking about fabbing up a 3" inlet side for the cooler, I'm not sure if the've done it on a car yet though.
