Default dSLR Guys: Canon vs. Nikon

I know the D50 and D70/D70s are the popular Nikon models for entry-level dSLR shots. I also know that the Canon Digital Rebel XT is a very popular camera on these boards. So what do you have and why do you have it?

I just picked up a Nikon D80. I like the user interface on the D50 and D70 but I wanted more megapixels just in case I need them so the D80 was the logical choice. It was a bit more expensive but I wont have to worry about replacing it for a long while. I also went Nikon over Canon because the XT just felt too small and too fragile in my hands. The Nikon felt alot better and more solid to me. Canon has more lens options it seems but I've always read Nikon is a little higher on the quality scale. The ONLY thing I dont like about the Nikon is the damn NEF format instead of a standard RAW format. I can shoot in NEF and convert to TIFF with the software that came with the camera I believe for editing purposes but I haven't given it a shot yet. If that works I'll be a 100% happy camper with my Nikon.

I am a canon guy myself, but then again I have access to a top notch canon camera. My friend has a rebel xti, he's pretty happy with it, except for the shitty lens kit.

canon rebel xt is a solid camera just get one of the aftermarket lenses. like the 18-85 IS (image stabalizing) lenses.

Or the 1ds mark 2-3 16 megapixels for the win!

Nikon has a solid 10megapixel camera i think it's the d200 or d20 though

I'm so freaking jealous! I want the D80, but I already have a D50! I'm a fan of Nikons, but the Canons are just a good IMHO. What really matters is that you have good glass on it ... don't skimp on your lenses!

Agreed. I could have went with the basic lens or even the Sigma stuff but I opted to get a little more and pick up the DX 18-135mm Nikkor lens when I got my D80 and I'm glad I did.
