I have a TCI SSf 3500.. Its lockup clutch took a dump around 15k miles. TCI took care of me and upgraded it to a billet front cover and only charged me for the parts, no labor. Verter is working fine so far...

so far one person with no problems(darrenls1)any others?Ive had mine since feb. this year. The tranny just took a dump last wk.I just added my cam in last month thats when the tranny started slipping and finally crapped on the dyno. The guys installing the new tranny said that the verter looked fine.I just hear so many horror stories with the TCI.You would think that such a large company would do something like a recall trade in instead of waiting to hear about people complain, but if mine holds for ayear Ill be happy,it gives me time to save for a vig or yank.EDIT:one more person with apositive experience.this gives me hope

nah, I had a positive experience with my TCI just had to change the shift kit a bit. Not a problem just fine tuning. Alot of people have TCI and are in great shape, 5 people are not enough to make a conclusion on TCI. It will be a great converter and a great price.

what horror stories? TCI has been in the game for many many years and as with any new product every company has had it bad batch go out.
my 3800 was great, i dropped almost 6 tenths with it.
looks like the lock up clutch is starting to go on , i have had it for 3 years and I'm pushing a decent amount of power thru it now.

I had a SS3500 put in and within 100 miles the lockup went out. Trans was a fresh rebuild by a reputable person and also the computer was tuned for the swap. Also had a 24,000 cooler. Plain and simple the clutch sheered off internally. I did have great customer service and they did waranty it with a new one with an updated billet cover(suppose to have a larger lockup clutch)for no cost expcept for the fact that my clutches were toast. My new one is in and so far so good. Not enough miles on it to tell though.I have to say from the day I installed the first one I had the lock up chatter everytime I steped on it at light load. Even with the Transgo kit and the updated PWM valve it did not matter. I think it was bad from the get go. Moral of the story is to get the upgrade billet cover from the start. It costs a little more but you get what you pay for.The sad part about the whole deal is I wasn't even aware of the ugrade from the very begining. I am still running this convertor and have a best 60'ft time of 1.53 on a COMPLETELY stock suspension hitting a 150-shot out of the hole with 3.42 gears. Now I run PI Vigilante series in my Turbo Buicks and love them as well. My GN has a best of 1.55-60 ft. Hope this helps.

I appreciate everyone chiming in and sharing their experience with TCI.Mine has been fine so far and it looks like it has more happy customers than unhappy ones.Even reading other posts that even the more popular and expensive ones has had their problems too.I guess every comp. can have a bad batch.
