You'll want to upgrade to an ported/LS6 pump with the heavy spring. Use good oil also. If the engine is out port out the back as pictured.

I decided to go ahead and do it, opened up the rear cover's cross over port first, then got the ***** to go caveman on my block. I also smoothed out the sharp edges. I want to know how deep I can go, I only went in about .125.
SInce I did this I have read that Steve D does this (correctly with a CNC machine) so I guess it was a good guess on my part. I'd still like to know how deep he goes.

The pic Ive seen that someone did with a cnc looked like it was about 1/4" deep. I'll see if I can find it. There was a BIG article on the differences and said this was the biggest difference.

Yeah, I'm thinking of going a full 1/4". I may strip her down own last time and do it.
I'd love to see the CNC pic. I also remember seeing that article where it said that this was the biggest difference between blocks, and I even posted a thread asking if the problem was here, in the rear oil galley crossover or the pump.
I've taken apart a 98, 99 and 01 ls6 pump and measured everything all dimension were the same. relief valve diameter & length, gerator thickness, inlets and outlets. The only difference that I didnt test/check was the metal type and the spring pressure.
