Default Oil an removal install?

Can the pickup tube be remove and installed without removing the front engine cover?

yes, you can remove the pan then take off the 2 bolts that hold the pickup tube to the block and it'll come right out. No need to take the front cover off.

Reinstalling the pan is critical though, make sure it lines up properly.

You might also think seriously about replacing the O-ring that seals the tube to the oil pump. Its pretty cheap, probably good insurance.
