Default anyone with heads n cams expertise plz enter need help

i have a 2006 chevrolet lumina ss a vette engine 5.7 ls1 (350hp), also known as holden commodore ss in ausralia.. its banned in the states but lets refer to pontiac gto its the same exact thing except its a four-door car... i'm working on my performance, n i bought the stuff for the first step: headers, air intake, intake manifold, exhaust system(flowmaster american thunder), gear shifter(auto).. i still didnt install the parts..

i'm now interested in adding cylinder heads and a camshaft, n this is the area i dont know much about like the numbers and wats the perfect match for the stuff im gonna have on my car. wat i'm looking for is not much of a daily use but around 3-4 days max per week and the most aggressive sound n power.. i need help on which heads n cams should i be looking for, i need help understanding the numbers to see which r the perfect heads n cams.. i'm sorry i'm taking too much time here, its my first time in this forum.. thanx for ur time.. waitin for ur answers

yeah search..you have good questions...but there are so many little things that youll have to learn...

try search...also contact speed shops like TSP or Thunder and ask what they use and what works..

How much money do you want to spend? If your going budget the TSP line of PRC LS6 heads and one fo their camshafts, such as the MS3 is a good combo or even the G5X3 by LG (might have to flycut pistons, not sure though youd have to ask Louis). if you have no budget or a large budget look into the new trick flow heads or AFRs or ETP heads plus a custom ground camshaft.

If I am u i would go first to the dyno results section and look for the combo that produces the desired power u want. after u find what u want go to the drag racing results section and look for your combo there or similar to that .

after u have an idea about what u want ,post again with all your questions. and as the guys mentioned above SEARCH will be your best freind .

sorry man but $3000 will get you to 450hp with the right cam and exhaust setup but your still goin to need a tune to get the 450hp out of it, (tune not in the $3000).

speedyss tuning is a must to me, we have the best tuners here... i know a guy had the same car i have increased his power by 80hp just from programmin(if thats wat u mean by tuning), it was 410hp, took it to 490 just from tuning.. did a quarter mile in 11.5s without a supercharger, stroker, n nitrous(i think not sure about that)...

W/ 490rwhp he should of been at least 11.5!

Just keep searching and reading the stickys you'll figure out exactly what you want. 550hp is probably going to cost a little more than 3000.00 though, and as mentioned above, contact companies such as Texas-Speed & Thunder Racing and they will point in the right direction toward your goal. Good luck to ya!

No offense, but I have yet to be beaten by a LSx motored Lumina in this area.
And a 3800lbs car that runs 1/4 on stock motor with just tuning, is ammazing.
I call

There is only 1 guy that beat me before and that guy runs a 427 C5R motor in a Vette. He posts on this board sometimes and used to run 10.6 on motor.
He is actually turning his ride into a twin hair dryer killer as we speak.

PREDATOR-Z didnt run on just tuning, mods were first steps: headers, exhaust, TB, intake manifold, shifter.. then he added heads n cam, torque converter, gear ratio, limited slip... i think that should be good enough to run a 1/4mile...

No problem, but now for your power goals, do you mean 550 rwhp or at the crank? Either way its going to be hard hitting that number without a power adder. For $3000 you can definately get a good Heads/Cam/Intake setup. Since your on a budget id look at TSP or Patriot Performance for some heads, then you will need a pretty radical camshaft, say a trex/g5x3/g5x4/ms4 etc to hit mid to high 400 rwhp. Your also going to need all the bolt ons, such as headers and full exhaust, probably a fast 90/90 combo, and an underdrive pulley, which would put you over your budget, however I think one of the camshafts above and a set of ls6 heads by either tsp or patriot would be a good start. Out of curiosity what engine does the lumina ss come with? Ls1 or Ls2?
