Default higher rpm?

I am just wondering what is required to make the vehicle safer at higher rpms? ( at and above 6k) I recently had my engine eat a lifter and it apparently it was because I revved it to 6k rpm (i have never gone over 6k rpm and have only got close to 6k about half a dozen times, but my dad still thinks I broke it because he says that was too high of an rpm). Anyways if you could just list the part type and maybe a good company that sells them I would be happy, thanks.

uhh...your engine didn't eat a lifter because it saw 6k rpm. my car has shifted @ 6,200 for the last year with no problems and i'm still on all the stock ****. i've bounced the 6,400 rev limiter 100s of times. did you check the cam or oil pump? there is a reason the lifter is bad, and it isn't because of high rpm.

check http://www.sdpc2000.com/cart.asp?act...tart&catid=873 for factory replacement lifters. i think the factory ls7 replacements are like $100, they'll work in our motors, and you can't go wrong.

yeah i agree with s346k unless something crazy happened no way you lsx took a dump at 6000K

yah I said the same thing but he told me I was wrong and that this engines is just not made to go that high. I just want to prevent this from happening again because I just had to pay 4k for a new motor and install. Now I am never allowed to take the car over 3k rpm unless I am racing. I have to listen to because the car is under his name until I turn 18 which is still a few months away.

break in that motor the correct way please. and where did you get an ls1 for 4k new with install????

stock shift points are 6000rpm.

last year and this year ive been shifting at 6500 and recently upgraded to an F13 cam and shifting at 6700rpm untuned. Im more worried about my transmission going out from the RPM. i need a tune though

yeah its definately not from revving to high, i bring my car to 6k atleast once a day. then when im dragracing it, it goes a litle past the 6k mark im guessin im quite close to the limiter. but these engines were made to rev high, out a cam in them with some rod bolts and they will rev even higher

6700rpm on stock lifters all the time here... Your Dad has no clue what he's talking about...Same lifter used in the Z06 Vette with a 6600rpm redline..

Man...I'll take your dad for a drive in my car. Stock engine internals, and I've bumped the rev limiter to 6300 RPMs (stock cam, stock valve springs - if anything isn't a good idea, it is that). Every time I drive it hard, I assure you it gets shifted all the way out there.

stock lifters have gone over 7000, 6000 is nothing, I hit that and then some almost every day on my way to and from work. I am sure your dad is looking out for you, and doesn't want anything bad to happen to you when you take the car over 6000.. or anything else to break, or spin (bearings). IMO listen to him, and read as much as you can here in the meantime! but the lifter collapsed/broke, whatever yours did because of a likely oil starvation problem.

The engine that the lifter broke on only had 30k miles, the motor that was just put in has 16k miles and it is from a 02 camaro z28. I also forgot to mention in my original post that I tried to do a burnout twice by dropping the clutch at 4500-5000 rpm (I know I was stupid). So besides that and the 6 or so times I have got close to 6k thats the roughest I have ever driven the motor. I thought maybe the previous owner drove it harder but the clutch was almost brand new when we took out the old motor. I only owned the car about 3 days before it broke too. We didn't even realise their was a problem until I lost oil pressure which we found out was from it being clogged up by shards of metal from the lifter.

My stock lifters see about 6700-7000 almost every single day. I do not see how in the world taking it that high would hurt a lifter. There's an underlying problem in there somewhere I bet. Good luck on figuring it out, and tell your dad to spend a day on ls1tech, so maybe next time he decides to give you car mechanic lessons, he'll actually know what the hell he's talking about.

My car is all stock internals and everytime i drive it that thing sees atleast 6000rpm its an A4 BTW. but when i get my cam in it i still wont turn it no more than 6500 rpm. it also has 108k miles on the engine.

LMFAO i spin my car to 7200 all the time.. the stock valvetrain is good for HIGH RPM's... im on stock rockers, stock lifters, and chromoly pushrods. upgraded rod bolts is all you need for 7k RPM's

how hard is it to do new rod bolts don't you have to take the engine apart.

I was told not to replace my rod bolts with good ones because it wasn't worth it and it was too much of a pain to do?

He also said that it would be the most stupid thing I could do.

Last weekend I had to give my dad a sit down and shut the hell up talk about LS1's. It annoys me to no other when he tries to tell me something about the motor that he has no knowledge about. I cant get him to grasp the concept that this is NOT a SBC or BBC.
