AC don't work, how bout a shorter belt?

AC don't work, how bout a shorter belt? Since my AC doesn't work anyway, would it be possible to buy a shorter belt, and put it on, still leaving the AC pulley on?(I want it to work eventually). How much of a difference do you think I could see from this?

Hmm, my friend has a 91 mustang, and he got a shorter belt, and bypassed 2-3 pullies. (power steering, ac, and maybe something, else.. ). somethin like that possible?
