Default May get a 93 TA

It looks like I might be getting a 93 TA with 80K miles on it next month.

Provided it is in excellent condition as I am told, and I do end up buying it, anything major I should be looking for?
I figured the opti might need to be replaced soon, or upgraded, what are good options there?

I know the vehicle has exhaust work done, but I'm not sure if its actually any good. Provided I dont need to look at the exhaust, I thought getting a fiberglass ram air hood and kit would be a good next step.

Its an A4, so a 2800 stall sounded like a good idea next.

If I port the throttle body, would buying one still be better?

I have a 93 and am pleased with it thus far, mines a Formula. Needs some work, ALOT more than the kid who sold it said. He said only the drive window needs fixing, but man there's alot more than that lol Thankfully it's nothing major at ALL. Got it for $3800 with 93K on it, w/ A4. While I like speed density, I think you MIGHT be happier with a 94+ There's a few more things that are nicer, like being able to tune the chip with JUST a computer and ALDL cable. Otherwise, you have to tune a chip, have it burned, get an adapter thin, and then plug it in. I have a chip in the works ATM, if I get the go-ahead for the EGR and AIR settings (turned off) I'll send you the file. But if you get a 94+ you won't have to.

I didn't know it requires more work to tune the chip on the 93.
I'm not sure what the final price will be, but I think its gonna be $3K

How hard is it to replace the old chip with one easier to tune?

Oh, I figure I shouldn't spend to much on the engine, and just drop an LS2 crate engine in and work on that down the road, unless the LT1 is really worth upgrading.......

If your looking to leave it stock than the speed density will be fine. If your going to mod it alot you could always switch to a 94+ computer and harness.

How hard is that to do?
money?

I'm really new to this, and am currently deployed with my guard unit until next month, which is when I plan on getting this TA

He is right I almost bought a 95 Z, before I ever drove an LS1 I ended up not getting it then 3 mounths later I bought my 98. I would have been very upset if I had bought the 95. dont get me wrong LT1's are good engine's but I love my LS1's.

The chip is easy. Don't worry.

Converting to 94+ would be quite simple I assume, but you'd need to buy a Mass Air Flow sensor as well. The ECM I'd guess would be what, $150+? Harness could be anywhere from $50-$200 depending on who sells it, and the MAF could be anywhere around there too.

According to another thread, you might not need a new harness. Except the MAF, don't know how that'd work out :\
