ford explorer v8 and 94 formula better than my 98 t/a in acceleration... why?
so i drove my fiances moms explorer v8 today and when u barely touch the pedal it zooms and throws you back, same goes for the 94 formula i test drove the other day. my t/a is fast. but when i hit the pedal lightly i feel a little delay and it doesnt really throw me back or zooms out. it feels a little sluggish. but when i push hard it flies and burns out forever. do u fellas have any idea as to why my car is slow? any input from ya all would be really appreciated. thanks folks!

all i can say from what people say about the LT1, is that it is a better low end car than the LS1 and in many cases FEELS faster off the line than an LS1. I know when i had my 86 IROC it would slame u back in the seat and felt alot more brutal than my 02 but thier is no compaison in power. the lsx series in general seems to be a more refined v8 than the chevy engines of old. as far as the explorer is concerned, that thing probably has more tourqe than Hp so it probably pulls hard in the low end, but dont worry, my money would still be on the LS1!

the L98 is just a weight to keep the car from blowing away in the wind.

you can have arcing in the plug wires, fouled plugs, or something faulty in the ignition. doesnt matter on mileage, matters on OEM part's dependability.
check the throttle cable when the hood is open. shouldnt have more than 1/2 a millimeter of slack.

8mm plug wires and TR55 Iradium plugs gave my 98 alot better throttle response, but it had 113K on it too. I think that may help get the feel you want or a 3k stall if your car is an auto.
As for the LT1 and explorer; Drive a ricer, feels fast but the 1/4 times always tells the truth.

I'm still thinking about your slack question...
I guess if you open the hood and have a friend get in the car and slowly floor it for you (engine off, of course) you will see the throttle blade lever move...that and you can see if the cable were drooping or something, but I hafta be honest with you, I don't see that happening or an issue....just an opinion...
have you had the car checked out by a mechanic? does the 'service engine soon' indicator light up and stay on after the car is started? you just described it as weaker than the Explorer and the LT1 when you lightly touch the pedal and after owning 8 5.0s and 3 LT1s (plus driving my job's LT1 squad car), I gotta say if your only talking about the seat of the pants feel...those vehicles have more bottom end torque at the lower rpms...hell, the LT1's max torque was rated at what...2500? 3500? The LS1 is just coming on at around 3000..
I've driven quite a few LS1s before I bought mine and I always thought they were slugs off the line, for about oh I dunno...a car length or two...then that bad boy got going and I forgot all about what I was thinking about until I stopped.
do you have an auto or stick?
does the go pedal feel smooth when you slowly accelerate. or does it stick?
the main thing i'm trying to figure is if you have an actual problem or your just looking for more of a kick in the lower RPM range....in which case, I recommend you take a set of gears or some giggle gas and call me in the morning

When I bought my ls1, i still had my lt1. When I reved them up, the lt1 would rev alot faster.....
One day I took the ls1 out and my brother drove the lt1. We caught a light, and of course he got me right off the line. After a second or 2, I went right by him.
ls1 was stock then and the lt1 had intake and catback.

One thing Id like to add. I love giving people a ride and seeing their reaction as I take 1st gear to redline and shift to second. They are always looking for something to hold on to.

I dunno....sounds to me, you were expecting more from the LS1 than it's delivering. take it to the track and get some ETs, that will tell the story

gear
what gear do you have? my 98 had a 2.73 felt sick down low.my bro in law has a 95 5.0 gt all bolt ons a4 3.73s.pulls like a bitch oon bottom end.we raced and he pulled me about 3 cars off the line, but by the8th mile i blew back by him .by the end of the qaurter i had him by probably 4 cars.the explorer uses a really good intake and the gt40p heads.it also uses a speacial
camshaft to make more bottom end tourqe, for towwing.the lt1s feel better down low but the ls1 will toast it stock vs stock.
98 TA a4
3.73s completly eliminated sickness
pp3
slp lid
k&N
crane wires
tb bypass
ported tb&maf
flowmaster cat back

that's all good news...that means no issues with the TB, TPS and of course, that computer controlled trans is gonna hold the car back ever so slightly off the line to protect the driveline...
4.10s, tires, intake and exhaust should change that bottom end in no time
