How can you tell if your 02 LS1 has an LS6 block?

Is there any real advantages to having an LS6 block compared to an LS1 block?
I am thinking about getting a 98 or 99 Ls1 but I think I heard these werent as good, why is that?

If its a standard, 01-02 got:LS6 clutch, hydrolics, and carbon lined blocker rings. 98-00 got LS1 stuff and paper lined syncros
The 98-00 had looser main bearing tolerances, worse rod bolts, worse oil pump, an EGR(not present on 01-02) and an LS1 manifold (loses about 10whp to the LS6 manifold, but they DID get a bigger cam, still not QUITE enough to be = in hp on average).
The 02's got a napier faced oil ring which helped with oil consumption if you are doing a lot of high rpm/low load (cruising at 3,000rpm at 30mph) driving.
This is the differences in the powertrain. Oh, starting in 99 I belive GM switched from the Auburn to the Torsion differential, it may have been 00, but I think it was 99 when they did that.
LS6 block is in 01-02's randomly, maybe 25% or so of them. It allows better bay-bay breathing and can cut down MARGINALLY!!!! on oil consumption because of this (an oz ever 3K miles? lol) and some ppl think its worth a couple hp, which would be hard pressed to be proved either way.

I read something on here before about this. I found out i have an ls6 block in my car. Thought my block was dirty because it was darker color than my friends ta. There is also some bullseye thing on the passanger side at the base of the head thing to look for, but dont know how valid that is.

Im not 100% sure but i think that the earlier ls1 had a bigger cam than the later 2002 ls1's. I know that just because mine is an ls6 block there is no hp increase and it did not come with ls6 cam or heads. If i were you i would not waste my time with the ls6 cam i would do 224/224 cam it runs good and has power. Although if i wasnt in cali i would have went with the ms4 or something in that range.
