trick to getting oil pump on??? any tricks to getting the oil pump back on with the mtoor in the car?? came out somewhat easy but the damn teeth keep not being lined up or some ****.
any help appreciated

Take it apart and put the body on. You will be able to better verify the oring is not pinched and you can center the body. Install the gears and put the cover on.

never tryed that, I try to line up the gear and slip it on, the Vettes are a bit easier when bolting up the p/u tube, they use the outboard threads on the pump

Thats nice to read. I am helping a friend install a T-Rex in his C5. I'll let him decide which way he wants to go.

yeah c5 would be deffinately easier, damn fbody is almost impossible to get that bolt from pickup tube loose as well!

thanks alot for the help frat .... this is my trans am that we are doing the cam install with dvandentop and we had a hell of a day .... we ended the day with the new cam in but hard time getting the upgraded oil pump back on the crank .... i'm sure this will make it easier for us!

I tilted it clockwise 45 degrees, pushed the pickup tube down and slid it on. It was hard but eventually igot it on. Then i just rotated it in place. I hope to god i didnt pinch that o-ring, it looked good and in the right place when i put it on so i think i should be good.
What tricks did you guys use to get the pickup bolt on? My pan was dropped almost all the way and I still wasn't able to. I eventually got it on last night, but anyone got any tricks in case i need to do it next time?

As for the bolt....
I had the pan lowered, made a "rag wall" in the front part of the pan and used a pen magnet to get the bolt lined up. Once I got the bolt in the hole (which would have been alot easier if it had hairs around it
) I used thumb and index finget to get it started. Once the threads engage its easy from there. R/

Oh.... if you use rags to keep the bolt from falling into the pan remember to take them out. It has been forgotten by some.

went and worked on it again yesterday afternoon ... we tried a LITTLE with the oil pump, but kinda focused on getting valve springs replaced with the PT golds.
cam is TR227/224 .572/.565 114 lsa
nothin huge, just a start ....
and what we did get done with the oil pump we took it apart ... slid it right on the crank, that was alot easier .... but still had alot of troubles with getting the pick-up tube bolt on .... how far did you drop oil pan? we took out two front bolts but didn't think it would be necassary to drop any more for it .... anyone got any pictures of this "rag wall" haha ... it sounds like a good idea, cuz we have already been stuck searching for the bolt in the oil pan a few times ... been a frustrating time but should be done soon if we can get this figured out....

I loosened all the bolts around the pan in order to get it to drop enough to my needs. So far so good.... no leaks. Also, put a little dab of RTV where the pan meets up with the front cover.
I'll look and see if I got any pics of the "rag wall"

These are the only ones I have. I pushed the rags down into the pan and made a "wall" from left to right to keep the bolt from falling all the way into the pan in the event that I dropped it. This was after the fact... but I wanted to give you a general idea.

hmmm okay .... i have a general idea how it works ... still seems hard. we have dropped that bolt in the oil pan twice now and was able to pull it out with both magnet and a little pincher thing. i never knew the oil pump was such a difficult task or i wouldn't have involved it in this cam install!! haha

Tie some fishing line or dental floss on the bolt and work without worry.
Then when its on, just slice it off with a sharp blade.
I used a needle nose pliers to get the bolt inplace and threaded it back in with the other hand. Seemed to work ok.
I also had a sock stuffed in there for additional bolt droppage support, but it was prob overkill.
